On A Day Fifty Years from Today
If I shall wake up one day –
Let that day be fifty years from today –
And I find myself in thy arms still,
I shall kiss the wrinkles of thy face
And smile … Indeed, true love’s our case!
I shall kiss the lips…
Thy lips that I’ve been kissin’
For fifty years or so…
Those lips that I’ve been kissin’
Some fifty years ago.
Looking back at a time
When yet we were young and beautiful …
Mem’ries … oh … we have handful
As for example,
The intensity of the intimacy
We shared on our wedding day
That grew, though in a subtle way,
Same fifty years from that day.
Youth may have left us
If I shall wake up beside you
On that day –
That is fifty years from today –
But, for certain, not beauty …
It will not leave you nor me.!
Like an old stone castle –
Silent and Sublime –
We will stand the test of time.
Yet still!
If I shall wake up one day –
Let that day be twenty years from the day
Fifty years from today –
I shall be remain in thy arms.
‘till the Lord commands us to part
But, darling, keep this in thy heart…
If thee must go ahead
In your resting place, beside
We will be an empty bed
For me to lie, so in death
I still might be by thy side…
