Chapter 8 - Meaning

Zenitsu’s POV

I wiped the tears of my face and look at the time. It was 7 am. Still pretty early before my appointment in 5 pm. I wanted to know what exactly that dream meant. Those pristine, white stairs, the playground, my actions, and the boy. I wanted answers. I search up a therapist or anyone that can help me in this problem.

My eyes light up as I see someone familiar. “Shinobu Kocho”. She was my senior during my school days. We were friends but… we started falling out as soon as we had our own hobbies and companies. Though, I can’t believe she was a therapist. This was perfect timing too.

I call her company and set up an appointment. They said that I should be there in about 8 am. I close my phone, prepare some clothes, and head into the shower. I wonder what the dream really meant.

I step out of the shower and put on my clothes. I get my stuff and head down stairs.

“Oi. Where the hell are you going this early?” Kaigaku calls out to me. I didn’t expect he’ll wake up.

“Uh… Just going to get some groceries..?” I could think of a better excuse but that’s all I have right now. Besides, he wouldn’t believe anything else I would say.

“Hmmm. Ok then. Just don’t take too long. And buy butter!!” What? He actually believed me? I’ll take it!

“O-ok then. See you later!”

I step out of the house and call up a driver to drive me to Shinobu’s office.

Just a few minutes and we were already there. I step out of the car, after thanking and paying the driver. Her company’s building is quite nice looking. It had this new and improved look to it. The doors were made of glass and the building was made out of concrete and painted with the color white. It was still clean despite, it being white.

I head inside and quickly go to the front-desk.

“Excuse me. Is Ms. Shinobu here?”

“Yes! Just turn right here and then her office is to the nearest door!”

“Thank you so much!”

I quickly go there and after a few knocks on the door, she let me in.

“Hi! Good Morn- oh. It’s you! Zenitsu-kun!”

“Yes… it’s me. I’m surprised that you still remember me after all these years.”

“Of course! We were friends! How could I forget?” She had this menacing look which scared me. But she was always like that during our school days. That’s why no one hit on her or ask her on a date. They were too scared… She starts speaking again.

“Anyway, what’s the problem?” She asks me that. I became hesitant to tell her the dream but I have to. I needed to. It was the only way to get answers.

After deciding that I should tell her everything, I did. She took some notes while I was telling her, nodding and asking some questions. She looked really interested. I finish up the story and wait for her reply. She wasn’t speaking so I tell her that I’m done.

“T-that’s all…”

“Ok. So, based on what you said, I already found out what that means.”

“R-really?!” I was surprised that she already found out the answer on what little information I gave her. I wait for her to speak up again. (A/N: Read carefully! This is the meaning of the dream!!)

“Ok. The meaning of that dream was basically, you put your dreams or aspirations first and foremost, before your loved ones. The playground may mean that it was the last place you saw or the last place you remembered when you were still with that boy. The stairs were like life itself. Your hasty actions and your forcefulness to go to those stairs means that, you wanted to be better than anyone else. You wanted to at the top and be successful. You prioritized in achieving your aspirations to the point that you shut everything and everyone you loved out. That is also precisely the reason why you forgot about the boy.”

Hearing that felt like my eyes were finally opened. That was true. I prioritized my future more than anything else in the world. That was my secret in being successful but it was also my downfall.

“Thank you so much. Really. I can’t thank you enough.”

“Its fine, Zenitsu-kun! Just be happy! Soon enough, you’ll remember that boy!”

“T-thank you!!” I say as I step out. I head back into the car and tell the driver to get me to the convenience store to get some butter and head home.

~Quick Shinobu’s POV~

It’s been a while since I saw him. To think that he actually became an idol. He really wanted that when he was still a high schooler. So, their dreams were connected huh. I guess this was a really small world.

(A/N: Just before Zenitsu woke up and went to Shinobu, Tanjiro went to Shinobu first.)
Tanjiro’s POV

I head towards the therapy office and look for a girl named “Shinobu Kocho”. Never heard of her but the reviews on her was really good. There was almost no bad reviews.

I step in and knock on her door. After hearing her approval, I went inside. There were these butterflies in a glass case and some other butterfly pictures. I take a seat and start talking.

”H-hello! Good Morning! I’m Kamado Tanjiro!” I was trembling and stuttering because she looked so scary!!

“Hello! Kamado-kun! I heard about you! Anyway, what was the problem?” Hearing her voice made me calm down. It was soothing and pleasant to hear. I stopped shaking and finally tell her about the dream.

“So, I know the answer already! Do you want to know~?”

“Uh… yes?” I was really confused as to why she would have to ask that but, just in case, I prepare myself emotionally and mentally.

“Basically, the dream was about your life. The stairs included. You were very hardworking but it was too much stress that your body couldn’t keep up anymore. You slowed down and you were getting really tired because of the pressure. The blonde boy was also one of the stresses you had. You wanted to keep up with him so much that it was so much pressure. Seeing and realizing that you couldn’t keep up anymore, you decide to give up and reach for him. Maybe he didn’t turn back because he was also too prioritized in his aspirations. Anyway, that’s all.”

Hearing all of that left a pain in my heart but it was very true. I wasn’t the type to think about the future. All I saw was him. I thank her and head outside to go back home.

I finally know the meaning of the dream!
