Chapter 7 - Too Far Forward

(A/N: This is basically like the dream from chapter 2 “Despite Reaching My Hand Out” but with Zenitsu’s POV. This might also explain his actions during that chapter.)

Zenitsu’s POV

~In the land of dreams~

“Tanjiro!! Let’s go play!!” I shout at him and beg him to play with me. I didn’t even care how early it is. He asks permission from his mom and then waves goodbye.

“I’m coming!!” He calls out to me. I wait at his front gate for a while. Just thinking about being with him and playing with him is making me so happy and actually made my heart skip a beat! He was just the best!! I loved him so much!

He runs up to me and we hold hands. I get flustered and blush but I accept it and hold his hand as well. We were holding hands up until we got to the playground.

I let go of his hand and just admiring the really cool looking playground! There were slides, sakura trees, a seesaw, and monkey bars!! Looking at these made my eyes sparkle. I head to the monkey bars first because it was the nearest one and the most fun to play with!

I hang my hands and swing. I just kept swinging and swinging and just noticed that Tanjiro was just looking at me. His eyes were like glued to me!! It made me so flustered that I lost my balance and fell! I began to cry at the pain!! I ask Tanjiro for help.

“Wahhh!!! T-tanjiro! Help me!!” I just kept crying and reaching my hands out to him to pick me up but he just laughed.

“WAHAHAHA- S-SORRY I- HAHAHAHAH” Him laughing instead of helping me made me really upset and embarrassed but I didn’t mind. His laugh was like that of an angel’s. It was so pretty. I play along with this.

“I-IT’S NOT FUNNYY!!” I kept crying and crying but not so much now. He stops laughing and wipes tears away from his eyes from all the laughter and then he finally heads over to me.

“WAHHHH!!! TANJIRO IS MEAN!!”

“Alright, sorry sorry.” He reassures me as he holds my hand to pick me back up. As I get up, I hold my butt and it still hurts! I see Tanjiro looking at me so I quickly turn away.

“Hmph! You’re so mean!” I say that but I didn’t really mean it. It just angered me that he decided to laugh first instead of heading over quickly to help me get up.

“I said I’m sorry!” I like this. He looks so cute!!

“Sorry’s not gonna help!” I say that because he was just so cute that it’s so unfair! He suddenly grabs my shoulder and turns me towards his way. He must be plotting something.

“Hey, I’m sorry. Will you please forgive me?” He gave me puppy eyes. I exploded in blushes. Just even smiling was cute and now puppy eyes!? I might not last long.

“P-puppy eyes aren’t going to help!” I say that but I’m practically at my limit.

“Please? > . <” He smiles at me and continues to use puppy eyes. What a devastating combo!! I decide to give in and lower my shields.

“F-fine! You don’t have to be so cute…”

“What was that~~?” OMG!! DID I ACCIDENTLY SAY THAT OUT LOUD?!?! I calm my nerves and just ignore this.

“Nothing!” He stops teasing me. I look back to what’s in front of me. I see a long set of white, pristine set of stairs that just led up to the sky.

“OHHHH!” I yell so loud that there was even echo. I look around and see there were no kids or anyone at all in this playground. It was just the two of us. That thought made me blush but I shake it off and become really interested in these stairs.

I run and run as fast as I can to it. I hear Tanjiro yell something to me.

“W-wait up!!” I kept running and running because I’d thought that Tanjiro could easily catch up to me. I stop and look towards Tanjiro.

“Wait…please…” He looked so tired. I decide to wait for a bit.

“Geez! Faster! I really want to go!” I turn back to the stairs. I just looked up to it. It looked so pretty. It just headed towards the skies. The heavens even. He runs up to my side and says:

“L-let’s go.” I start to become really worried but I just reassure him.

“Ok! Keep up with me okay?” As I said that, I showed him a smile and start running to the base of the stairs. We reach it and it looks so much better when you’re near it!

“Look, Tanjiro!! It’s so pretty and bright!!”

“I-it really is…”

“Let’s continue!!”I start to run up the stairs. These stairs were leading me to something. What was it? I run and run some more. Getting more and more interested. I became so interested that I wasn’t aware of my surroundings. I hear a faint yell. I turn around.

“W-wait!!! Don’t leave me alone!! Pleas-“ I was so far forward that I couldn’t hear it anymore. I couldn’t see Tanjiro anymore. Did he get lost? I start to turn back and look for Tanjiro. I couldn’t find him anymore. I was already on top of the clouds. I can’t see him anymore. Did I leave him?! The one I loved the most… I left him? These thought just kept eating away at me as I see the stairs that were once leading upwards was now collapsing. I fall and fall. I regret my decisions and let myself fall. I hit the ground and wake up.

~End of the Dream~

I wake up in tears. I left Tanjiro? I left him? How could I do that? All these regrets filter in my mind. It all just repeated and repeated making me cry even more.

I ran too far forward that I couldn’t see him anymore.
