Warning: Suicide (please do not read if it triggers you)
I feel like this story is pretty well known, right? I saw it in some cartoons as a child so it has been modernized quite a bit. I mean they always cut out the dark parts and only show the heroic parts but that's just how things are now. Anyways let's just get on with the story.
So, the Minotaur was born because Posideon gave King Minos of Crete to sacrifice it. Minos said screw you to Posideon though because the bull was too beautiful, er, lovely? I don't know how to say it. The point is, Minos didn't want to kill the bull. Then somehow, his wife, Pasiphae slept with the bull? How does one species mate with another? You know what, I'm thinking about it too hard. Then Pasiphae gives birth to the Minotaur and Minos then throws it into the Labyrinth made by Daedelus.
Minos' son Androgeus then went to Athens and died. There are many variants of his death. Some myths say the bull that got his mom pregnant killed him, or he was killed by the king, etc. Either way, Minos found out and told Aegeus, King of Athens, to sacrifice seven women and men every year (nine years in other versions). They would get on a boat with black sails and then be shipped off to their death by the Minotaur. One year though, Theseus, Aegeus' son, volunteered to go to Crete to be sacrificed but instead of being sacrificed he wanted to kill the Minotaur. Aegeus told Theseus to put white sails up if he was still alive so his dad could tell in advance if he was alive or not.
When Theseus got to Crete he told King Minos. "Hey, I'm gonna kill the Minotaur. Is that cool with you?"
Minos replied with, " Yeah sure kid, knock yourself out." Minos didn't really care that Theseus was going to kill the Minotaur because Theseus would probably get stuck in the Labyrinth either way. But Theseus met Minos' daughter, princess Ariadne, who fell in love with Thesus and gifted him some thread. I believe sometimes in modern day telling it is a ball of yarn but they basically work the same way. Ariadne told Theseus to use the thread to retrace his steps out of the Labyrinth. Theseus listened to her advice and killed the Minotaur.
So now there are no more Athenians that have to be sacrificed and Theseus got out of the Labyrinth. He took Princess Ariadne to go back to Athens with him and this looks like the perfect happy ending.
Yeah no.
The boat stops at Naxos and him and Ariadne celebrate and stuff for awhile. And then he leaves her on Naxos, either he just left her on the shore while she slept or just thought she was already on board and realized his mistake when he was close to home. Realizing this he becomes so upset he forgets to change the sails. Theseus son was watching on the docs for the boat and when he saw that the sails were black he became struck with grief and committed suicide by jumping into the ocean.
The end.
AN: Heyyyyyy, uh yeah, I just disappeared for almost a year, I sorta forgot about this so sorry....
I'll try to make an effort to write more because summer break is coming very soon so yeah. Good day and good night!
