***A/N: Hello! This is my first time writing a fan fiction and I really hope you enjoy it! Feel free to comment on any errors or anything else you might find to be off. This first story takes place 3 years after Aang defeats the fire lord (as it says in the text) and is basically just a story to catch up with the gang. Also, just as a reminder, I do not own any of these characters (though I wish I did). Avatar the Last Airbender is owned/created by the wonderful Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Once again, enjoy!!***
Aang whistled a tune as he strolled down the streets of Ba Sing Se, the sun barely peeking out over the horizon while casting a soft orange glow over the city.
Aang smiled as he watched Ba Sing Se come to life, the streets that were once empty now starting to buzz with crowds of people now lining the streets.
He watched as the shops slowly opened up, the smell of dumplings and noodles filling his nose as he stood there on the street, taking every scent in, from the spices to the smoky smell of the street.
"Oh, was it good to be alive" he thought to himself as a little boy came up to him, his mouth agape and his eyes wide.
The little boy gently pulled on Aang's tunic, his mouth still wide open as Aang looked down at him.
"Mister, are you the Avatar?" the little boy asked timidly.
Aang smiled at him and nodded his head, his grey eyes glowing in the morning sun and the edges of his eyes creased.
The little boy stared up at him. "Wow..."
Aang chuckled and patted the boy on the head before the boy ran off to get his mother, squealing along the way.
Aang shook his head in disbelief, somehow not believing that he had defeated the fire lord almost 3 years ago. It seemed as not much time had passed since Katara had found him in the iceberg, changing his life forever.
Katara he thought dreamily. Ever since they first met he had been ensnared by her, captivated by her deep blue eyes and her loving smile. Even as she seemed to constantly push him away or be totally oblivious, he could never really let her go.
He still hadn't.
And you could say that it was for the better, because he could finally say that he was hers.
After the kiss on the balcony of Iroh's tea shop Aang could officially say that him and Katara were dating.
He loved it.
He had been waiting for this since he was 12, and it was well worth the wait.
He was now 15, almost 16, and he never got tired of her sweet pecks in the morning or the way her face always seemed to glow when she looked at him. He was still the shy 12 year old at heart, blushing every time she took his hand, even after all of these years.
He smiled as he remembered just this morning when she had attempted to wake up early to make him breakfast. He ended up finding her on the couch fast asleep while the eggs were burning on the stove, Katara curled up peacefully as the smell of smoke drifted through the room.
He normally woke up before everyone, so it was no surprise when he walked out of his room that morning and found the living quarters in Iroh's tea shop completely silent except for Toph's occasional snoring reverberating from the end of the hallway.
He had quietly thrown the eggs out and picked up an apple from the counter, pecking Katara's cheek before slipping out the door, lifting his head up as he felt the cool morning breeze.
