Walking into her first class, the first thing Alexa noticed was the boy from the subway wasn't anywhere to be seen.

"Does he not go to this school, did he skip school today?" All were questions flooding Alexa's brain as she walked into class, happy to see the familiar faces of the two girls from the subway, sitting right in the front of the class. Alexa took a seat in the back, praying no one else was planning to sit there or was already sitting there.

"We have a new student today!" said a tall man of about forty walking into the classroom "Please welcome Alexa Peters!"

All eyes in the classroom turned to Alexa. She stood up, with enough force to knock the hand sanitizer right out of her pocket. She heard it hit the floor, but she didn't look back.

"If no one noticed" she thought "I can just pick it up after I sit down again. Once the attention is directed towards someone else, anything else."

"I'm your teacher, Mr. Matthews. Would you like to tell us anything about yourself?"

Alexa rushed through her brain, trying to find the right thing to say. She didn't wanna sound weird and shy, but she also didn't wanna sound too confident and cocky.

"My name is Alexa." she began "I used to live in California and I really like reading. I'm 12 years old and... yeah."

"Thank you Alexa." said Mr. Matthews "The textbook should be in your desk. Now class please turn to page..."

That was where Alexa stopped listening. She had never payed attention at school in California and she wasn't planning on starting that here in New York. She would just keep her book under her desk and tune out the teachers and all the people around her.

Today, that book was Peter Pan. Sure, she had read it five times in the past year but it never got old for her. Neverland: a place with no growing up. A place that would forever have the childhood bliss Alexa needed so badly to be in her life again. A place with no alcohol, no drugs, no real world problems. Alexa was convinced that Neverland was where she belonged.

"Sorry I'm late." said a voice coming from behind Alexa. It was the boy from the the subway earlier. He look tired, very tired.

"I'm Lucas Friar." he said "And I'm from Texas."

Alexa started imagining a life with this new boy, Lucas. Lucas calling her "his girl", Lucas holding her hand while walking to the next class, Lucas putting his arm around her during a scary movie. It was all so much, she missed an entire screaming riot, lead by the girls from the subway earlier.

These girls were interesting to Alexa. They weren't like anything she had ever seen. They were best friends... but they were nothing alike. The brunette reminded her of a Disney princess, with long hair and an even longer dress. The blonde, she reminded Alexa of more of a rockstar. She was confident and wild... and also a lot of fun. Alexa would have never guessed these two were going through the universe... together.

"Class dismissed!" yelled Mr. Matthews. Alexa got up right away and grabbed her binders and book and was about to leave until she was stopped by an unfamiliar person.

'Hey! I didn't want you forgetting this!' said the boy, holding out the hand sanitizer. This boy looked much more... professional than Lucas did... a lot more put-together.

"Oh... um thanks." said Alexa, taking the hand sanitizer back.

"I'm Farkle!" he said 'Do you wanna be friends?"

Alexa was shocked. No one had ever asked her since kindergarten if she wanted to be her friend, and even then, they never lasted long before moving on to someone else more interesting.

"Sure" said Alexa "I would love to."

Lunch. Lunch had never been Alexa's favorite. In California, she would sit with Taylor and Kate. But there was always a chance that Kate would be at the dentist and Taylor would have the flu on the same day... leaving her nowhere. Although that day never did come there, she never dropped the fear.

Alexa saw the girls from the subway in the lunchroom... and knew it was her chance. There was an open seat on the table... now was her time to take it. She slowly walked over... trying to be as calm as possible when:

Farkle.

Farkle had got there first. Alexa assumed that Farkle had already dropped this whole friends thing, and he wasn't going to actually do anything with her. Thankfully, there was an empty table, right next to the trash can. Alexa had sat there yesterday as well. Alexa took a seat right there and stayed there for the whole lunch, and didn't interact with a single person in that lunchroom.

Soon enough, the bell rang and back off to class. Alexa was slightly excited for Mr. Matthews class, which was next. There was Lucas. And Farkle. And the girls. Even though she missed her chance at the subway... and at lunch maybe she could talk to them after class.

There was a heavy debate going on already as Alexa was walking in. The rockstar girl yelling about homework again.

After Alexa had sat down, she saw Farkle. Farkle had prepared quite the impressive debate project. With even what looked to be firecrackers. Alexa suddenly felt that her essay was quite lackluster compared to Farkle, but she wasn't sure if that was quite a bad thing or not.

Suddenly, Alexa realized she didn't have her essay. She looked to the blonde and saw her name on the top of her large pile of essays.

"Give me that!" yelled the blonde to Farkle, yanking one of the firecrackers out of his project and into her hand. The girl ran on top of the nearest desk.

"No Maya! Don't do it!' yelled Mr. Matthews to her from behind his desk.

POP!

Maya had just set off the sprinklers in the classroom. And soon enough the fire alarm was going off.

Alexa ran, but as she was looking back into the classroom, she saw Lucas covering the brunette from the subway with his coat.

A bit of jealousy flew through Alexa, but that jealousy gave her the power to run faster. So she did. She could hear Mr. Matthews yelling at Maya. Screaming she had detention. But no punishments went to her friend, Riley. Alexa wasn't sure if that was fair or not, but she had too much on her mind to care about something so stupid.

Alexa walked home that day. No point in taking the subway. She wanted to see Lucas, but she didn't want to see him with Riley. She wanted to talk to Maya and Riley, but she knew that tension between the two was going to be very high at that moment.

When Alexa got home, she saw her mom, Opal standing right by the door like always. She was a stay-at-home mom who, in Alexa's opinion, deserved a lot better than Nick.

"How was your second day of school sweetie?" asked Opal.

"It was fine." said Alexa.

And this time, it really was just fine.
