Michael’s POV
I was walking around the outskirts of Sydney with my younger cousin Mandy when I spotted a familiar little girl. She looked about Charlotte’s age and had the same bright pink converse. She was walking and holding hands with who I assumed was her mother. Her mother’s figure looked exactly like Kiara’s figure but her hair was completely different.
I let my superstitions get the best of me and before I knew what I was doing, my feet were dragging me towards them. Man, my feet have a mind of their own.
I tapped the older girl on her shoulder and she turned around.
“Michael?” she asked in disbelief. I rubbed my eyes a few times and tried to wake up from this dream but it just wasn’t working.
“Mikey!” Charlotte squealed when she saw me. I scooped her up in my arms and hugged her tightly.
“Where have you guys been? I haven’t seen you in over a month!” I exclaimed.
“Oh…uh yeah. We’ve been in LA with my cousin” she said quickly.
“That’s cool. Why are you so far from home?” I asked. I was confused about why she was here considering she lives an hour away from here.
“Yeah I know” she sighed.
“Well I better go now but please, call me. We need to catch up very soon” and with that I walked back across the street and over to my car. I got in the driver seat and started my engine. My car started stalling and then all of a sudden it turned off. I tried to start it again but it wasn’t turning on.
I jumped out of my car and locked it before running back over to Kiara.
“Kiara!” I called out making her turn around.
“What’s wrong?” she gasped. I was panting and I only ran across the street.
“Do you think I could use your phone? Mine just died” I explained.
“Yeah sure” she answered, pulling her phone out of her pocket.
She handed me her phone and I rang the mechanics.
(after phone call)
“Shit, shit, shit!” I cursed.
“What? What’s wrong?” she questioned.
“They can’t come and get my car until tomorrow morning. How am I meant to get home?” I huffed.
“You can stay at my house?” Kiara hesitated and it sounded more like a question.
“You sure?” I asked. I feel bad for crashing at her place when I haven’t seen her for over a month.
“Yeah it’s ok. And I live close by” she assured me. I looked at her confused.
“Close by?” I said, puzzled.
“Yeah” she mumbled.
We walked to her car and we got in. Within two minutes we pulled up in front of a little house with pretty white rose bushes at the front.
“This is your house?” I asked, admiring the house in awe.
“Yeah, I just moved in last week so it’s still a little messy” she explained and I nodded.
We walked inside and it looked like a loft you would see in New York. I felt right.
Kiara took Charlotte upstairs to put her to bed I assumed and I just sat down on the couch and turned on the TV whilst I waited for Kiara to come back downstairs.
After a few short minutes, Kiara came downstairs wearing her sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt with her hair pulled up into a messy bun.
“So Mikey, how have things been lately?” Kiara asked as she sat down beside me.
“Things were good until you and Charlotte left. Once Luke and I found the note in your house Luke has been nothing but depressed. He just eats and sleeps. He rarely comes to rehearsals anymore and when he performs, it’s as if the songs have no meaning to him anymore. He sounds blunt, he looks lifeless…and he is vulnerable to any skank in the clubs. He is such a mess and we don’t know what to do” Michael sighed. I nodded in understandment.
“Michael, I ran away because I was simply too scared to face Luke now that he knows he is Charlotte’s biological father. What if he wants me to start dating him? What if he jumps the gun and wants us to get married? What if he wants us to move in together and settle down? What if he puts his whole life on hold so he can be around Charlotte 24/7 to make up for the two years that he hasn’t been in her life? Michael, have you guys even thought about this? Put yourself in my shoes and tell me what you would do” I explained.
“Kiara, I’m sorry. I never thought about it like that. but if I were you, I would get my mind straight and think about everything and how yours and Charlotte’s future depends on your decision. I have a strong feeling that Luke will wait for you so it’s all up to you. you decide” he assured me.
And with that, I connected our lips in an instant.
