Rachel POV

BANG!

I woke suddenly to the sound of a door slamming loudly. I lay there disorientated for second, before the realisation of where I was seeped back in.

"Shit." I mumbled, rolling over in my cot bed. You really need to be more alert, I chided. I was trying to train myself to be a lighter sleeper, but I hadn't quite perfected it yet.

"Stupid door." I muttered, annoyed at it for waking me up. Why did those idiots have to put me in one of the cages right next to the door? I groaned. Dammit! I never had anything interesting to do being stuck in this cage 24/7 and now, I would be even more bored, considering I didn't get a sleep in and had more hours to kill.

Double-D and Butch, the beefed up guards that I had named, were the culprits to the slamming door. They were carrying something down to the cage next to Lissa, before stopping in front of it to unlock it, then going inside.

I cracked open my eyes, watching them as I lay still, pretending to still be asleep.

Are we getting a new fellow cell mate? I wondered, hoping that actually we weren't and that they were just putting stuff in there for storage.

The last girl they caught would not shut the hell up with her pathetic crying and wailing, moaning about how unfair it was that she was captured, blah, blah, blah. To be honest, I was actually pretty glad she was gone now. It was a mean thought, but it was much more peaceful without her.

I had learnt to be merciless now, this situation was not for the weak and pitiful, especially as I was looking after Beth, who was a complete softie and little Lissa. Someone had to be one in charge, and it seemed that fate has chosen me.

The whole week that the girl had been captured, I had gotten almost no sleep and was as grumpy as anything. She was complaining so much, that the guards had come in with the keys to our cages to 'shut us all up' which had meant trouble. Lots of it.

So I had to provoke the guards to distract them from touching Lissa or Beth and they thought it would be fun to give me this stupid, black eye.

I strained my ears, trying to pick up if they were saying anything, whilst still pretending to be asleep.

If they thought I was still asleep, then they might say something, something important, like if there was gonna be a new girl coming in or not.

But no, they were as boring as usual, not saying a word, as they finished up with whatever they were putting in the cage.

What if they locked themselves in? I mused, now that would definitely make my day! I glared at them, willing it to happen, but no, combining their two almost non-existent brains between them, they had managed to get out and lock the cage door successfully. On their way out, Butch eyed up Lissa, who was still sleeping in her bed.

I narrowed my eyes at him, forgetting about 'being asleep'. "Oh, heell no." I muttered, swinging my legs over the side of my cot bed. I was not letting them touch her. I decided that I would entertain myself with Double-D and Butch.

With them being concentrated and annoyed at me, it would take the attention off Lissa and Beth which was good, because neither of them were stable enough to handle extra attention. I liked to take it from them.

I'd learnt that Butch was easily angered, and even though I'd pay for it sometimes, it was usually worth it and today was no exceptions. I grinned evilly. This, was going to be fun.

"Morning ladies!" I chirped, plastering a smile on my face as I jumped up to the front of my cage, bouncing on my heels. I loved to take the piss outta them and I took any chance I could get.
