East Side Church. Atlanta, GA.
A week later.
"Good morning everyone" Gia said as she stepped up to the podium.
"Good morning" everyone said in unison.
"I never thought I'd be up here getting ready to say what I am about to say, so please bare with me." She said trying not to let the knot in her throat keep her from talking.
She cleared her throat and took a deep breath.
"Marlene was a girl full of happiness ever since she was a little girl. She was the light in our lives. She was smart, intelligent, outgoing, fearless just like her dad" She said reading from the paper she had in her hand.
"She was courageous up until her last moments. She never left her father's side. She was all that we wished for in a little girl. She loved to play ball with her old brother." She looked at Brayden who had his head down.
"She was very competitive. She was president of her school and she was in drama club because she said she wanted to be an actress" she smiled as she read that part.
She began to feel her eyes get watery.
"She..." Her voice cracked, "She was a young woman full of strength ready to take on the world. I'm sad she had to be taken the way she did and God knows I am angry but I know I should not question him"
She let the tears roll down. She looked down at the paper and she couldn't bare to read anymore.
She was so angry at everyone, even herself.
She felt someone touch her arm. She lifted her head and saw Herb next to her.
She sniffed and wiped the tears away.
"I am in deep pain. Our family is in deep pain."
She took a moment, " Marlene, mommy loves you with all her heart and I promise you, you will live thru all of us. I will never let you down. I love you sooo much babygirl. Say hi to Rick for me"
She looked up as tears streamed down her cheeks.
She stepped off the podium as everyone clapped.
"We love you G" Someone shouted from the crowd.
After a couple more speeches the service was over. Everything was taken care of. All that was left to do was drive to the grave site and say the final goodbye.
