What a time - part 7

Niall lays down on his bed. He woke up early and took a hike with the group along some of the paths on Alishan mountain today, and it was beautiful.

For a moment as he sat on the restaurant with the group, with a bowl of noodles that sent his soul straight to heaven, he almost forgot the aching in the back of his heart that made him take this short trip around the world.

He turns to his side, seeing the empty space on his queen size hotel bed.

He moves his head back to the ceiling, trying to remember how it feels like to have her next to him.

She was always a hogger when it comes to sleeping. She takes two third of the space and still somehow squishing onto him while they sleep. She rolls and rolls and rolls around the blanket until there's barely left for him so they both slept as a really tight burrito. Every single night without fail.

He pulls the blanket a little bit closer to him, not that it gives him half the warmth she could.

He lets out a frustrated sigh, tossing his blanket aside and walks out of his room and out of the hotel to get some fresh air.

He looks out the mountain. It's dark and a little cold, but the quietness outside comforts him more than the quietness in his bedroom. He sits on the benches nearby, looking out at the nothingness. The only people he can see awake is him, and the two securities inside.

He takes his phone out. He's been posting a few pictures of where he was on his private Instagram story, a part of him did it in hopes that she might see it, that she might reply, that they might be able to talk. Of course not.

He taps open her chat, seeing their last message.

It sounded so normal. She was in the grocery store and she asked him if he needed anything. He told her he ran out of toothpaste and she said she noticed and got him some in the shelves.

Everything sounded so normal, he couldn't have seen it coming. It was either something snapped inside her that day in the park, or he has lost her such a long time ago that even if she did change, he wouldn't have noticed.
