"I can't believe we're really going to visit the Great Divide!" Carrying their water pot, Jade bounced with each step back to their campsite. "The biggest canyon in the world! I've read about how amazing it is, but I never thought I'd get the chance to see it with my own eyes!"

Aang smiled. "Just wait 'til you do see it! It'll blow your mind!" When they reached the site, he turned to look to Sokka and Katara. "Okay, we got the grub and water if you guys got the..."

Their friends had been tasked with setting up the tent and starting the campfire. But the twigs were on the ground and the tent was in a heap. As for Sokka and Katara, they were standing on opposite ends of the campsite, glaring at each other.

"Hey, where's the campfire? And what happened to the tent?"

Crossing their arms, Sokka and Katara turned away from each other. "Why don't you ask Miss Know-It-All, Queen of the Twigs?"

Katara spun back to point at him. "Oh, yeah? Well, you're Mister Lazy Bum, King of the..." She grabbed a stick to throw at the back of his head. "Tents!"

With a yelp, Sokka spun to glare right back at her. Jade cringed. "Oh, boy..."

Aang simply chuckled. "Okay, listen, guys. Harsh words won't solve problems. Action will. Why don't you just switch jobs?"

"...Sounds good."

"...Whatever."

Katara got to work on the tent and Sokka picked up the twigs. Grinning proudly, Aang turned to Jade. "You see that? Settling feuds and making peace; all in a day's work for the Avatar."

Jade giggled. But upon hearing Momo's shriek, they turned to find him in a conflict of his own with Appa. Over a watermelon, apparently. No matter how hard Momo tried, who couldn't get it away from Appa, who kept the melon in place with just one finger. He tried pulling it, he tried pushing it, and he tried flying away with it. Jade felt a little bad for laughing.

Finally, when Momo gave up, Appa took the fruit on his tongue to dig in. Momo swooped in to snatch it away, but he ran right into Aang, who grabbed and tossed it in the air. With his bending, he sliced it in two pieces, one big and one small.

The big piece landed in front of Appa, who chomped it down. Upon getting the smaller piece, Momo squawked in protest. Aang set his hands on his hips. "Come on, Momo, that's fair. Appa's got five stomachs."

Jade hadn't known that. "Cool!"

When Momo still seemed upset, she bent down to pet his head.

"Don't worry, we've got plenty of berries." She beamed. "No one's going hungry tonight -- we all need to have full stomachs while we pass over the Great Divide!"

Begrudgingly, Momo dug into his melon. Jade shared another grin with Aang.

On a regular day, Jade was the last one awake. Today, she was first.

She thought that Sokka might have preferred it the other way. He certainly didn't seem to appreciate her waking him up, but she was just too excited to care if she disrupted his rest. And her excitement never did fade. Not during breakfast, not while they were packing up camp, and not during the walk to the canyon. In fact, the closer they got, the giddier her steps got.

Did she trip? Yes. Did she get right back up like it hadn't happened? Yes, of course.

Finally, they made it. And Jade was finally stunned into silence.

"There it is, guys;" Aang spread his arms. "The Great Divide."

It was a huge stone valley, stretching as far as the eyes could see. Given that she'd grown up in Omashu, you'd think she wouldn't be so amazed by what was arguably just more earth. But there was something about the natural beauty of the cliffs that she couldn't help finding incredible.
