Third Person
~~As the squeaking of shoes stopped the buzzer signalled an end to the third quarter. All of the team members on Seirin were loosing energy. Though, Kai found herself getting pissed at a certain player.
Kagami.
She began to think how he was playing with the same mindset as the generation of miracles. He wanted to win, so much so he completely put aside his team and wanted to do it all by himself. If she could, she'd run down there and slap some sense into him.
Fortunately for her, there was someone else thinking the same way who ended up doing exactly that.
"Kuroko!" Their coach yelled as the blue haired boy landed a punch on Kagami's face, sending the boy falling off of the bench onto the ground.
Kai quickly jogged around the edge until she was stood looking down directly at the team on the bench.
"Damn it Kuroko, you bastard!" Kagami growled as he grabbed his teammate by the collar.
"You can't play basketball by yourself." Kuroko stated.
"As long as we play nice together, you don't care if we lose? There's no point if we don't win!"
"There's no point if you win by yourself. You said you wanted to beat the generation of miracles, but you're thinking just like them."
There was a small silence before the blue boy continued, "even if we can beat shutoku as a team that can't trust each other, no one will be happy."
"Don't be so naive!" Kagami yelled before paying Kuroko back with a punch, dropping him to the floor, "If we don't win, those are nothing more than nice words!"
"Then what is victory? No matter how many for points you have at the end of a game, if you're not happy, that's not victory."
At this point, Kuroko's words were a strong impact on not only his team but the girl watching from above. She understood where he was coming from, he was speaking from experience of how the generation of miracles played their games.
The team was rendered silent at his words. Kai let out a soft sigh before leaning over the rail so the team could see her.
"He's right you hot headed idiot. You have a team for a reason! It's not like any of you want to lose but the teams there for you to rely on each other!" She called out.
"H-huh... who are you?" The basketball coach asked.
"Kai?" Kuroko said a little shocked as he spotted his friend.
"I'll introduce myself after the game, but Kagami. If you guys are going to keep your promise, you can't go turning into one of those miracle pricks. Be better than them. Get your heads in the game, work as a team and listen to your coach! I won't bother you now."
"Yamamura what the hell-" Kagami said as he turned to face her.
"Uselessly hot headed people piss me off." She said bluntly, narrowing her eyes at him before leaning away from their view.
"Wait... Yamamura Kai... as in the old coach?" One of the members asked and Kuroko nodded.
"She's right. Heads back in the game!"
—
2 minutes and 50 seconds left. A score of 76-78 to Shutoku.
Kai could feel her heart racing, the anticipation of the game weighing on her chest. It's not impossible for them to win at this rate, but it not impossible for them to lose either. Kuroko's pulled out the ignite pass, by the reactions of the other team members she could assume they didn't know about it either. Also, Kagami's legs were giving up on him. His jumps are useless now.
A time out was called with 2 minutes to go and Kai was listening in to the teams talks. Soon the game was up and running again, constantly being cut close.
-
"Seconds left to go..." Kai muttered.
Kagami was one on one with Midorima. At this rate, his legs should be out of power now, but with his hot headed attitude, Kai assumed he would try another jump.
As Midorima got ready to shoot the prediction was proven correct as he jumped to block him.
"No-" Kai gasped. She could tell from his actions that Midorima was going to pull a fake.
"A fake with only a few seconds to go! That's brave... this game might not go the way Seirin want it too..."
its a one point gap. If they get this point, they win.
1 second.
It was as though time froze, a smile immediately came to Kai's face as she realised what was happening.
Kuroko believed in his teammate too. That's why, he was ready.
The blue haired boy appeared behind his previous teammate and knocked the ball from his hands.
The whole stadium fell silent as the ball hit the floor, the buzzer breaking it.
A few seconds passed before there was an uproar of cheers.
"They did it... they beat a second one." Kai smiled to herself.
The two lined up as the scores were announced, "82-81, SEIRIN!"
"Heh..." Kai let out a small laugh before pushed herself away from the edge. She put her hands in the pocket of the jacket she kept in from the ride and walked up the steps and out of the area. She headed towards the locker rooms and stood in the lobby area outside of them to wait for the team.
-
"Kai." A familiar voice snapped Kai out of her thoughts whilst she was waiting.
"Testsuya!" She smiled as she stood up from the wall she was leaning on and walked up to her friend.
"You came to watch." He smiled.
"A promise is a promise." She put her thumbs up, "Needless to say I'm impressed. 2 down, 3 to go."
"Uh... Kuroko..." a teammate mumbled from behind him as the team stood there.
The boy turned to face his team and Kai stood beside him, quickly bowing before speaking. "I'm sorry for that intrusion during your break. I'm Yamamura Kai, an old friend of Kuroko's. I used to-"
"YOU USED TO COACH FOR THE GENERATION OF MIRACLES!" One of the boys yelled.
"Ah... yeah." The girl rubbed the back of her head nervously.
"Well it's nice to meet you." Their coach smiled, "I think what you said was what the team needed to hear. Kagami in particular."
"Ack!" He looked away sheepishly as he leant on a member for support.
"Hm. Hot headed idiot." Kai huffed before turning to Kuroko, "hows your face?"
"Oh... it's okay." He nodded and he held his cheek.
"What about me!" Kagami grunted.
"You'll survive. His punches may hurt like a bitch but you've got a stronger build than him. Kuroko on the other hand is too frail and a punch like that could kill him!" Kai teased, a few of the teammates snickering.
Soon, they all began walking towards the exit together and talking.
"Kai, why are you here now though?" Kuroko asked.
"Oh, well turns out the head of my school is a sucker for basketball. He allowed me to finish all my exams early and marked them so I could have the weeks off."
"Lucky!"
"Where will you stay?" He asked.
"Well, I'm staying with Aito, a family friend, until the weekend. Then Karasuno are coming up here for a training camp so I'll join them for that."
"I take it Karasuno are your new team? Volleyball right?" The coach asked.
"That's right." She nodded.
"Ah right, let us introduce ourselves." The coach said as they gathered around and did exactly that.
