Campfire Chills

Why do the flames flicker?
Why do the embers burn?
Why do the trees whisper,
Only after you have turned?

What is the black shadow
That follows by your car?
What is it about that meadow
And the firefly in a jar?

Don't assume anything,
For the supernatural lives on
In every person, every dragonfly wing,
The magic blood is not gone.

Flames flicker to avoid capture,
The greedy goblins in the dark
Want to read the next chapter
To leave their burning mark.

Embers burn because they must,
To live despite lack of wood
To stall their return to dust,
To be understood.

Trees whisper away from eager ears
And grow when eyes are turned
To protect the dryads that live in fear
Of, like their mothers, being burned.

The black shadow that runs by her
Is a hellhound from down below
Sent from fire by earthly desire
To protect her from secrets known.

The meadow is home to faerie clans
And centaur foals that want to run,
You hold your sins in your hands,
Captured in a jar with small suns.

You see demons in the victims,
Of those that have been hurt
An oath to be the victor, soon,
To set fire to the dirt.

You see angels in soft smiles,
Large sweaters and daisy crowns
Who grin while they face trials
And tame anger with slight sounds.

Paranormal may hide in the boring,
But, it can be found!
you must simply go exploring
And investigate all around.
