Through the trip to Fishmen Island, Shanna has really made a place for herself amongst the Straw Hat crew. Whether it be her bubbly personality, her sense of justice, or just the way she's always offering to help out with chores, everyone seemed to take a liking to her.
After they emerged from the ocean into the new world, they were caught up immediately in the worst weather possible. The clouds were dark, and rain poured down as thunder became nearly the only source of light, making it impossible to tell whether it was night or day. "YAHOOOO!" Shanna shouted as they sailed the sea.
"Look! The volcano over there just exploded! Let's go to that island!" Luffy pointed to the island that just came into view.
"WHAT?!" the entire crew gasped.
"Hahahaha, as I thought, you really are insane Luffy," Shanna laughed.
Just as the crew was arguing whether or not to go through the sea of flames and onto the volcano island, suddenly a crying sound interrupted everyone. They all turned towards the direction of the sound, it was coming from inside the ship! They all rushed inside to see what was going on, only to see the Transponder Snail crying.
"Why's the Transponder Snail crying? Hey! What's wrong? Does your stomach hurt or something?" asked Luffy.
"Luffy, as cute as you are but that's completely wrong," Shanna chuckled.
"Idiot, that's an emergency signal. Someone is calling for help," Sanji said.
"If I pick up, can we connect to them?" asked Luffy.
"Wait Luffy, more than 50 percent of emergency signals are fake! It could be a navy trap, one they use often. If the line is tapped, they will find out where we are," said Robin. However, Luffy, being Luffy, picked up the Transponder Snail without much hesitation.
"Hello! My name is Monkey D. Luffy. I'm gonna become the King of the Pirates!" Luffy said before getting smacked in the head by Usopp.
"You picked up too fast and said too much!" Usopp said.
The person in the line cried out, and at the end, Luffy asked him where he is, and he said that he's at Punk Hazard, and that seems to be the last thing he said before letting out a deafening cry, and the line is cut. Luffy ended the call, and said, "I smell trouble."
"HE GOT KILLED! OF COURSE THERE IS TROUBLE!" Usopp shouted.
After some discussion, amongst the crew, Luffy casually asked, "Shanna, what do you think?" Shanna's eyes widened, for Luffy didn't seem like someone who'd usually ask for someone's opinion. And when she saw the excitement and curiosity in his eyes, her eyes softened and she smiled.
"Why not? Sounds fun," she said with a smile.
"EHHHH? HOW SO?" demanded Usopp, Chopper, and Nami.
"Okay! Let's go save that guy!" Luffy decided.
"NO!" the others screamed, begging Luffy to change his mind even though they knew it was futile. At first, she was truly interested in what was going on at Punk Hazard, but at the time Shanna didn't realize that she would soon regret the decision she just made...
....
A few days ago when Shanna first joined the Straw Hats in their journey to the New World, while they were submerging towards Fishmen Island, Nami grew curious as to why Shanna was at Sabaody. "Hey Houston-san," she said.
"Shanna is fine!" Shanna interjected.
"Okay, then Shanna. Why were you at Sabaody Archipelago? I mean, didn't your crew head for the New World two years ago?" asked Nami. The others were also interested in the conversation, so they sat down with the two girls to listen to the red haired girl's story.
"Mmmm," Shanna hummed, looking upward, as if trying to think of where to start. "Well it's a long story, but to sum it up, the Captain and I got into an argument, which resulted in me leaving the crew."
"Ehh? You quit the Heart Pirates?" Sanji exclaimed.
"Well yeah, kind of. Mmm, but to be more accurate as to why I was at Sabaody, I kind of found my dad soon after I left the crew, so I ended up training with him for about a year and a half. He was gonna take me to the New World, but a month ago when we were at Sabaody, Rayleigh told me you guys were gonna set sail to for the New World, so I waited at Rayleigh's place for you guys!" Shanna said with a cheeky grin. "Since I thought it'd be more fun to travel with you guys than a bunch of old men haha!"
"Wait wait wait! You know Rayleigh? Who's your dad?" asked Usopp. Shanna glanced at him blankly, as if she was processing his question, but soon her lips spread into a soft smile, and she placed her index finger over her lips.
"That's a story for another day."
...
...In the end they drew lots to decide who would go with Luffy to check out the island. By the results of the lots, it was decided that Zoro, Robin, Usopp, and Shanna would go with Luffy, whereas the rest would stay on Sunny. Before they left, Sanji packed them lunch, and handed them to Luffy. Nami created a path made of clouds for them to travel on.
Luffy sat in the front row with Usopp, and ate the lunch box Sanji packed for them, while Zoro, Shanna, and Robin sat in the back, enjoying the ride on the clouds. "Ahh, it's so hot," Shanna sighed as she took a bite out of her share of the lunch box.
"Shanna-chan is from the North Blue right?" Robin asked.
"Yeah, I was born and raised on Swallow Island," Shanna nodded. "It's mostly winter throughout the year so I'm more used to the cold than I am the hot." She fanned herself a little. "Dang Sanji is such a good cook! I feel like he's better than Jack!"
"Is Jack the cook from Heart Pirates?"
"Yeah, he's a great cook too!" Shanna nodded. Then her eyes became a little dull. She looked down, a sad expression on her face. Too bad I'll never eat his cooking again, she thought. Her expression didn't go unnoticed by Zoro and Robin.
"Oh look, we're almost there!" Robin exclaimed, changing the subject. Meanwhile Zoro placed one of his meatballs in Shanna's lunch box.
Soon they arrived on land. Usopp and Zoro pulled Mini Merry onto shore, and they walked over to the wired fence. The gate was locked and there was a label that said Punk Hazard, signalling that they were in the right place.
Zoro cut the gates open, and they made their way inside Punk Hazard, where everything was on fire. Luffy and Zoro both took off their shirts, and called out for the guy who called them as well as the samurai. "The guy who called on the Transmitter Snail, didn't he said that he was cold?" asked Usopp.
"You're right," said Luffy. "It's so hot here but he said it was cold... Maybe he was stupid."
"Could it be that there's somewhere cold on this island? Or maybe he had a chilling experience," Robin said.
As they walked down the path in search for any people around, there was a strange sound in the air. "Do you guys hear that?" asked Shanna.
"Maybe that's the sound of the wind," Robin suggested. Suddenly, Shanna felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up. She spun around, and her eyes widened at the image in her eyes. The thing stomped, and the others turned around as well, all of them gazing in shock and awe as well as fear.
"Is that..." Robin muttered.
Usopp slowly turned his face around in fear, and when he finally saw the creature, he screamed. Luffy exclaimed in confusion, "Huh? Does it actually exist?!"
Zoro placed his hand on one of his sword's handles. "No it's a mythical creature! There's no way it actually exists!" he said.
"But those feature... It can't be anything else!" Shanna shouted.
"DRAGON!"
