Chapter 22: Leaving Dressrosa

It felt like a blink of an eye. When she woke up again, Shanna shot up from the ground, expecting Doflamingo to attack at any moment. However, it was unexpectedly peaceful and dark. Snore sounds surrounded her in the dark room. She looked to her left, and there she saw Robin and Franky asleep against the wall. Zoro on the ground she found Kyros the former gladiator, Bellamy, and Usopp. To her right was Zoro and Law. 

Law slept right next to her, his body wrapped in bandages. She placed a hand over her mouth to silence her gasp when she saw his right arm attached to his shoulder, wrapped in bandages. His fingers twitched a little with every breath he took, a sign that the nerves and veins are all attached. Thank god... Shanna grabbed his hand in hers and placed it to her forehead. It's all over now. Everything is over. 

She honestly thought she'd die back there, but for some reason her head was no longer throbbing and her ears no longer ringing. She felt...good. Better than ever actually. Sure, she felt like a mummy, wrapped in bandages and all, but otherwise, she felt....great! It didn't feel like Law's doing. Even if he did surgery on her, she wouldn't have healed that quickly.

She wasn't sleepy anymore so she just sat there, staring at Law. It's been so long since she's sat down and taken a good look at him. Ever since she saw him at Punk Hazard she's always avoided eye contact as much as possible, but she only now realized that Law changed a lot over the past two years. He was always a slim, tall man, but he's much more lean now. His skin isn't as dark as before, most likely from being on Punk Hazard for too long, not getting enough sunshine. 

He slept with his mouth open, making a soft breathing noise, but not as loud as a snore. Shanna chuckled, finding his sleeping position cute. There are still so many things I don't know about you Law, but I can kind of understand why you didn't tell me, she thought. I was young, carefree, rash, and ignorant. You guys, all of you, tried your best so that I could see this world in a positive light. "But I want to know more about you. Everything. I don't want to be a little girl who needs your protection anymore. I wanna be your equal." 

Shanna scoffed at herself. She knew it was useless whispering these things to him while he was asleep, but she couldn't help it. I'm so silly. She laid back down next to him, sleeping on her side so she can continue to stare at him. But the moment she laid down, he too flipped to his side. "I'll always protect you," he whispered. Shanna's eyes widened when she saw Law open his eyes. He wrapped his right arm around her waist, and she was pulled close to him. "But I won't hide anything from you anymore. That's a promise."

"Y-You heard me?" she asked quietly. 

Law smirked. "I sensed you get up." He brushed her hair out of her face. His eyes were half open and sleep filled. It seemed like he could fall back asleep any moment. "Go back to sleep. You need to rest to heal properly." He snuggled his head close to hers and closed his eyes. Shanna gulped at the lack of distance between them. She slowly placed her arm around him, and found a comfortable position, resting her head on his arm. 

It's been so long since they slept together. Law used to hold her in his arms at night when they were little.

For the first time in her life, Shanna's room felt empty. She spent the last ten years sleeping with her mother, hugging her, listening to her steady breathing. But now she's gone. The room was dark, and place her mother used to lay was empty. She had cried so many times today, but her eyes were tearing up again. "Mom....." She started sobbing again. 

Suddenly there was a knocking sound on her door. She shot up from the bed, thinking it could be her mother, back from the dead. But when the door opened, it was just the 18 year old boy who lived with her for the past five years. "Laaaww.....!" She dragged out his name as she sobbed. The teenager closed the door behind him and joined her in the bed. He quickly wrapped his arms around her and started rubbing the small of her back.
