the festival

we arrived at our destination. The town was a lot more busier than our first mission together. There were lanterns decorated in every house, banners hung by threads above us. building with several floors people chatting doing their own stuff as the balconies and windows decorated with beautiful colors of flowers and greeneries. musicians and entertainers getting attention by big crowds and shops selling out food and items.

"Wow," I gasped slightly, "this place is so different from where we're from."

Tomioka kept silent, eyes focused observing the place, always being alerted. The loud crowds he wasn't used to was draining him. I spotted a shop that sold different flowers. They were beautiful.

"tomioka!" I patted him. He turned his head around to where I was pointing at a specific flower. It had a pale blue colour with beautiful long leaves sticking out. "It's pretty isn't it?"

he nodded hestitantly. We continued our mission walking through dozens of more shops and crowds. It was like a festival.

"let's split up and find some information," tomioka suggested. Although I was kinda disappointed of not getting to stay next to him longer I knew it was for the best. We'd have to finish this mission quick. I lost him quickly through the crowds.

everything was so vibrant and fun. It's been a while since I've felt free.

I went up to an old lady who was sitting on a seat next to store watching people celebrate around.

"Excuse me, may i ask you some questions?" i asked but the granny sat there with a smile on her face.

"have you seen any sightings of demon around?" I asked again. she did not answer and kept smiling. Confusion written on my face, I asked her again. Again, she didn't answer but smiled.

"Aah sorry," a young teenager around my age came from behind, "my apologies. My grandma is deaf and blind."

she had beautiful long red hair, bright blue eyes, freckles on her face, a sharp structured chin, with her white kimono. however there was something odd about her. i saw red thin lining sensing her out. she's a demon, but i decided to keep it low for now.

my mouth gaped nodding slowly.

"Can I help you?" She asked.

"Oh uhh. I was asking about any sightings of demon here. I've got news about it," repeating my question. The female thought a momment before inviting me for tea.

I declined the offer nicely but she insisted so I decided to. The female rolled her grandma up front to a more quiet place away from the crowd. I kept my eyes on the both of them. Seeing as the grandma's fingers tapped repeatedly in a pattern on the handle of the wheelchair. I got curious, but kept silence.

its probably a message

I decided to try and memorized her tapping saving it in my head for later. Maybe tomioka might decode it.

we arrived at a smaller house, probably their home.

"make yourself comfortable. I'm going to brew some tea," she smiled. I sat opposite from the grandma.

"It's a lovely place here," I commented suddenly feeling a little uncomfortable. I looked around still in my seat seeing several blood stains on the walls and floor. Having good vision was an advantage I guess.

"you have a lovely granddaughter," I smiled as I realized that the grandma was mouthing something out.

eyes widening. goosebumps appeared on my skin.

"Excuse me, I forgot to ask for your name," I said as she sat down between us. She poured the tea. Looking at it I knew right away something was wrong with the tea. It was clearly green tea that she brewed. The smell was strong, but there was something else mixed with it.

poison

"It's kahira yamato," she smiled sweetly, "and you must be a demon slayer?"

I nodded.

"About the demon thing- never mind. I'm sorry I'm feelin a little dizzy right now. Do you mind if I get some fresh air for a bit? I'll be back," I asked and she nodded. As I took one last glance before leaving, I swore her eyes changed with a symbol. Upper moon demon 7

as I got out I fell down on my knees. I knew that I needed to save the grandma. If it wasn't for her I would've been fucked. I could have attacked her on the spot but it was too risky. I could've hurt the grandma or made us fall to our death. Through the cracks of the floorboard and the hollow sound I suspected that there was a long drop under.

think think think

I might have to wait for tomioka, but where could he be?

I escaped away from the place quickly. i would have to come back to rescue the grandma. She wasn't actually blind nor deaf. Searching frantically through the crowds, pushing going through groups, I was shaking. I was actually shaking. I would have never thought to be scared of a demon until now. Her eyes. It scares me. She reminded me of someone. As if I couldn't bring myself to kill her.

thoughts were filling my head rapidly.

I massaged my head with one hand while trying to support my balance as I fell onto my knees as my other hand held onto a tree.

What is this feeling? Why am I suddenly so scared?

"y/n. y/n," a voice called out my name, "y/n, are you ok?"

I looked up to the person. It was tomioka. A sigh in relief escaped my mouth as he crouched in front, worry shows on his face.

"what happened? Are you ok?"

I kept quiet keeping my breathing stable. Tomioka crouched in front patiently repeatedly patting my back. It was true, he's never seen me so panicked and weak before. I hate being like this.

"my, sister, is a demon."
