Last time I was conscious I was cold, now I was hot. Not too hot but it felt like I had some type of fever. I thought maybe after I slept then my wounds would heal but I felt a numbing pain in every spot I was hit.
I slowly opened my eyes to see my own room, it was dark so it was most likely nighttime. I turned my head with a groan and saw that I had bandages on my arms, legs, stomach, and then tried to reach up to my face.
My arm felt incredibly weak, I almost lost breath as I tried to lift. I glanced around the room and tried to focus my vision when I spotted someone sleeping in the chair at the corner of my room. I blinked more and tried to focus and that's when I saw it was Damien.
Damien. The last thing I was supposed to say to him was to explain. I went to speak but as I did I groaned and clenched my jaw. I closed my eyes and let out a dry cough trying to use my arms to push me up.
"Mm...Charlotte?" I heard my name and I moved my hand and tried to raise my arm up but failed.
"Oh my god, Charlotte." I heard him stumble to me and I looked at him with a smile. He grabbed a bottle of water with a straw in it and I looked at him weirdly. I honestly wasn't thirsty but then my throat did feel bad.
I drank what he gave me and groaned.
"Hi, Damien." He grabbed my hand softly and kissed it, he put it to his face and dropped his head.
"Oh god, you're awake. You're finally awake."
"Finally?" I asked and he nodded.
"How are you feeling? Does it still hurt? Your mom gave you something or whatever and she said it'll stop some of the pain."
"No" I was able to only get one word out each time and once more I tried to sit up.
"Oh wait to hold on." He reached behind me and slowly maneuvered me against some pillows and when he did I finally got a look at my body.
"Sorry. I'm so sorry." He shook his head and placed it onto mine.
"Please don't."
"I was going...to tell you but..." he sighed and looked away. He wasn't looking at me and he let go of my hand. My heart stopped and I stared at him. I couldn't speak; I wanted to ask him, I wanted to explain.
"At least you guys aren't cult members because I thought for the longest you were running a cult." His response caught me off guard and he walked to the other side of the bed and sat down next to me.
"You're not? Freaking out?" He shook his head and leaned back looking at my ceiling.
"Your parents and friends explained everything to me. It took me some time but I felt like I wasn't so surprised. They also explained to us." I watched as he pushed his hair back and looked away from me.
"I...I like the concept. But I can't help but think that it's not real. My attraction. Your attraction. The way I feel about you is or was just some weird twist of fate and our feelings aren't real." I tried to move my hand to his but my left arm, in particular, was shooting with pain each time it was moved.
"No I-" he then turned his side to me and I felt like I could cry but nothing was there.
"But then they said it wasn't just fate or whatever. That it wouldn't just force us to feel and it made me realize." He touched my face gently and sighed.
"It didn't matter to me because I love you. And that's what I wanted to say: '' I love you." His voice broke gently and I smiled.
"I love you." He kissed the top of my forehead and I looked around again.
