After the bell rang, Ben picked up his bag and walked over to the door with Devi. Then he turned to Devi.
"Hang on. I need to ask the teacher something about the test next week." He said to her. She shrugged.
"Ok, but can I meet you at our sitting spot for lunch. I need to you know... use the bathroom." She said quietly. He laughed.
"Yeah ok. I'll meet you there." He replied and she smiled at him and headed for the door. Devi rushed around the corner, and smacked into Paxton, dropping some of her books. She looked so shocked and so worried, but he only cracked a smile at her.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry!" She said quickly.
He bent down to help her pick up her books. And got up to give them to her.
"Devi, I always have to say it's ok." He replied. They stood there awkwardly looking at each other, but mostly Devi.
"Ummm. I really am sorry you know." She said, softly. He just looked at her, his eyes had some sadness in them. He looked away for a couple of seconds, trying to disguise his emotions, then back.
"So. I heard your coming over to work with Rebecca today." He said. She looked him with sorrow in her eyes. "Ill try not to get in your way." He smiled at her. She collected her things and put into her backpack, as she still awkwardly stood there. "I mean, if this counts at all, I really did want to go out with you you know. It might just have came to me too late. Ben is very lucky. Maybe if I were as smart as him I may have figured it out earlier. Then it wouldnt be him, it would have been me." He looked at her, hurt in his eyes, and then gave a little smile and walked away. It left her dumbfounded. At that same time, Ben came out, frowning after Paxton. Then turned to Devi.
"And you said he wouldn't crush on you?" He said, feeling slightly defeated. Devi looked at him angrily.
"Ben, we were just talking that's all." She replied.
"Yeah maybe. But his not giving up. If he tries anything..." He said frustrated. Devi looked at him shocked.
"What? You going to hit him or something?" She asked angrily.
"Why is he cracking on my girlfriend. He should move on. That's not my problem." He said angrily. Devi looked at him in disbelief.
"You don't trust me?" She questioned him.
"I dont trust him." He replied, frustratedly.
"Don't follow me. I'm not happy with you right now." She snapped at him, leaving him behind. He looked on stunned, and just feeling depleted.
