"Umm.. I'm sorry" Yena let out, watching the boy who was busy reading through the file that had the information of his pending cases.
Chenle placed his pen down and looked up, facing the girl, awaiting for her to continue speaking.
"I should've refused the offer when Jisung asked me to stay at your house but.." "But I was scared I was the killer's target" "I'm grateful you let me live with you and asked the others to pick me up from college and work every single day despite having such hectic work, but I feel like I'm a burden" "I should've left earlier, I'm sorry for causing all that trouble" Chenle stood up, walking towards the girl who was seated on the couch.
"Why sorry? We're mere strangers" Her heart stung with guilt hearing those words from him.
"I didn't mean it that way- I mean, yes we are strangers but- but I... I don't know" Yena looked down unable to express her feelings towards him through words.
Chenle was about to speak but the door flung open revealing Jaemin.
"Interrogation room, hurry!" With that he exited the room and the two rushed behind him to the interrogation room.
"What's going on?" Chenle asked, narrowing his eyes on the person who Mark was interrogating while he picked up his earpiece and placed it in position.
Yena silently stood while she simply watching the others, unknown as to what they were talking cause she did not have an earpiece.
"Witness of?" "Min Jiwon's death"
Mark glanced at the others surprised and back at the elder man.
"The incident took place months ago, why haven't you shown up back then?" "I was just... scared," "Scared that I might become the killer's target cause I'm a witness"
Chenle briefly glanced at Yena, now understanding what the girl felt and was trying to convey to him.
"Explain us the scene" "Jiwon was my neighbor. She had a seizure that night and before I could get there to save her she couldn't make it. She was Acute cyanide poisoned right?"
Mark looked at Jeno who immediately grabbed the victims autopsy report file and upon seeing he was right, he gave a nod to the elder.
"And how do you know that?" "It's.. complicated"
"Have you seen the killer? Do you know him?" "He's now the leader of the mafia gang Ruby. No one has ever seen him, even if they did they are probably all dead cause he doesn't spare anyone"
"How do you know all of this?" "When his father was the leader of Ruby, I was a part of the gang myself" "I was the hacker"
"You aren't now?" "No, for my family's sake I quit being a member, around ten years ago" "The gang got worst after his son took his position- they're a bunch of ruthless monsters"
"So you're saying the killer is the leader of Ruby?" "Yes, I'm positive"
"Did the boss of Ruby ever have any unsettled disputes with anyone?" "I'm not sure... but there were a few officers behind us that time, determined to catch hold of us for all the illegal acts"
"But he's dead now right? Why's his son killing people?" "Revenge..?" "Cause those officers were the reason behind his father's death"
"By any chance do you know who his next target is?" "If my prediction is right.." "It should be the son of the head officer who was assigned the case- Mission Ruby"
"And who is the head officer?" "Zhong Kai"
