The side of my body leaned closer to the door of the study, it was were my parents usually situated themselves in the middle of the day, I pressed my ears closer to the door so I could make out the muffled sounds of what sounded like a conversation between them.

I would feel guilty for eavesdropping but my curiosity was getting the best of me after hearing my name being spewed out of my fathers mouth in a form of distaste.

They were talking about me, that much I knew, I couldn't hear most of the beginning of what they were talking about and decided not to interrupt, what they were saying sounded serious, it obviously involved me but if I asked they would never tell me, that and I was afraid they would wonder how I knew what they were talking about in the first place.

"The final arrangements have been made, our dinner with the Parker's has been scheduled for the next week hopefully everything goes well with them and they think Callie is suitable enough" my mother says loudly, her voice projecting across the room as she spoke, something she had always taught me to do when talking to others.

"Yes, hopefully they do think she is suitable enough, we have tried our best to groom her all these years and hopefully it pays off ,"

"Well do you think we should call for her now and inform her of this or should we wait? "

"Maria you know Callie is seventeen now which means she's getting rebellious, we can't tell her now, what if she decides to speak up for herself and defies us"

"Nonsense, Callie won't ever do that.  You know how she is, she has never gone against our wishes before so why would she start now you know how simple minded and kind  she is plus if we tell her this would be good for us and benefits our company, she will have no choice but to comply with us for our happiness"

I was confused to say the least, who were the Parker's, and why did my father think I was getting rebellious, if anything I had tried to be on my best behavior because they were kind enough to let me start school, which I was beyond grateful for.

My eyes began to water at the acknowledgement of my father's words concerning me, but I didn't dare let the tears fall, they hated it when I cried they said it made me look weak and warned me never to do it in front of other people.

I'm so deep in thought I don't even realize that the door I had been leaning against was now open revealing myself to my parents.

"Callie? what are you doing here?, " My father asked giving a hard look that caused me to let out a whimper internally. I had always been really sensitive but tried my best not to show it, especially not in front of my parents or my teachers, I didn't want them to give bad reports.

I quickly straightened my back and cleared my throat trying to recover from my past state so I could answer my father.

"I'm sorry father I came down to ask for my new schedule and I  overheard you both talking so i decided to linger for a bit forgive me" I said softly, my head lowering down to the floor in shame at what I had been doing, and just as I had expected my father snapped at me.

"You were eavesdropping on your mother and I?" His voice was deadly calm and I could see the anger seeping through his words.

"I-" my father's hand raised up, instantly silencing me from my next words, pinching the bridge of his nose he took a breath and slowly continued to scold me.

"How much did you hear, girl?" his voice was even calmer then before.

"Not much, I promise, I was only here for a little while I didn't even understand much of what you were saying father," I quickly rambled out not wanting him to take my words the wrong way, I've never lied to my parents before and I didn't want to give them a reason to start to doubt me especially not now that I would be starting at a new school with actual people.

My fathers face visibly relaxes as he turns to look at my mother seated in the background giving me a pointed look he motions for her to bring something out and she does bring out what I assume is my schedule My father takes it out of her hand and hand it over to me I am about to thank him when he interrupts me for the second time today.

"Now every day you shall go to school with the private driver we will be getting you you will go to school and come back home immediately, no extracurricular s, no staying behind to do any projects and no hanging out with friends" he pauses momentarily as he looks over  to my Mother with a grin on his face "that is if you make any, I know your classes didn't entail basic knowledge on how to interact with others, but you don't need any friends, your primary concern should be your grades and nothing more"

"Y-yes father I understand, I would like to thank you both again for granting my request to finish my senior year at school it really means a lot to me so thank you" I give them a small smile.

"Oh please" my mother scoffs in amusement "you think we let you go to school because you asked" she let's out a small chuckle as I scrunched my face in confusion.

If they aren't letting me go because I asked then why are they letting me go then? I thought to myself.

"The only reason we are letting you go to school is because we would like for you to develop at least some social skills before you meet the Parker family."

I'm confused again as I hear that name for the second time.

"Maria, we discussed this we are not telling her yet"

"Well it doesn't matter we might as well tell her, who knows if she already knows what we're talking about from her little scandal earlier" she gives me a scorn look her eyes raking up and down my body in a disapproving way.

"Um- I don't understand Mother who are the Parker's?"

"Oh just the family you'll be marrying into is all, now if you want to go shopping for your school supplies I suggest you leave now" my mothers says again motioning me to the door.

I'm not able to do much so I just let her statement sink into my brain and when it's processed I stare at her, with a look of disbelief masking my features.
