Third Person POV

Callie sat, her one leg draped over the other in her favourite white dress and nervously waited for the  arrival of her parents.

They had been away for quite a while now, and even though they barely made enough interaction to be considered normal during their stay she could say she was really anticipating their return home.

Of course there was a reason for this sudden anticipation for she had never felt this way towards her parents return on previous occasions, she never even addressed what she felt when they came back after being away for long.

She missed her mother the most, and she had vowed to herself that she would be good so her mom wouldn't yell or scold her for doing something out of line. She would be good so her relationship with her mother could escalate to better terms than it was before.

And most importantly she would behave so her and her mother could have a bond, the type parents usually had with their kids.

Callie had quickly begun to notice she lacked that interaction, and it was not a normal thing. She wanted more than anything to be able to talk to her mother about personal things in her life, she needed the advice, she craved it.

She was hoping maybe a friend could fill that space but then again she wasn't allowed to have any, and no one wanted to be her friend anyway.

At least that was how it appeared to her.

And who knew, maybe her mother would lift the no friends rule if she behaved, maybe if she was perfect enough they wouldn't have to worry about her getting into too much trouble.

She would be good.

She would be good.

She would be good.

The door swung open and Callie immediately rose from her seat turning to face her parents who stood at the front door, their eyes averting to everything except her.

They were both dressed formally, as usual and made no effort to even glance at her, it seemed to them that she wasn't even there.

Along with their presence came some helpers, filing into the house with suitcases and making their way up to their quarters so they could set the luggage down.

Callie wiped her sweaty hands on her dress and then proceeded to appear in her parents line of vision, hoping to catch their attention.

Her parents looked at her and her mother in particular snarled in disgust, meanwhile her father stared at her as though he was seeing her for the very first time.

"Hello Mother, Father"

She bent her head a bit indicating her greeting and having a sudden surge of boldness, she went in for a hug.

After hugging her father she wrapped both arms around her mother, embracing her as though she had been waiting for the warmth forever.

"How was your trip?"

The girl stood on her toes awaiting their answer.

"It was nice how have you been Callie?"

She smiled at her mother's sudden change in mood and almost did a double take at how nice her tone sounded.

'That was a first'.

"Um I've been good, I tried calling you both over the time you were away but it always went to voicemail. I just figured you were really busy or maybe you couldn't receive calls?"
