lantern festival

shuichi swatted kokichi's hands away as he attempted to reach for the chocolates.

"kokichi! we haven't even ate dinner yet."

the couple were at a japanese carnival to celebrate the lantern festival. "hmph! shumai's so mean!" kokichi pouted.

"attention everyone," the speakers came on. "the main events will be starting soon, complimentary dinner will be provided to all peformers' guests."

"isn't kayayday perfoming?" kokichi's face lit up. "yay! free hotpot!"

shuichi laughed as they walked towards the main attraction. local artists were going to be performing, whether it's singing, marshal arts or so on.

in the last part, everyone will get to release their lamps.

"hey, shumai! look, the concert is starting!" kokichi poked shuichi.

as the announcer read out all the events, shuichi looked around. kids were chasing eachother while the grown-ups chatted. couples were there too, feeding one another food.

it was still around eight, shuichi looked up as the first performer stepped on stage.

the concert went on for a good 2 hours, then it was time for the final act.

"the performance has concluded, everybody, paper lanterns are available over at the gift shop. pens and other untensils essential for decorating will be provided to you. have fun!" the speaker came on.

"saihara-chan! let's go, there's gonna be like, a zillion people!" kokichi tugged shuichi on the arm as he dragged him over to the gift shop.

kokichi shoved all of the other customers out of the way as he approached the front. "two lanterns please!"

shuichi could feel eyes on them as he nervously took out his wallet to pay.

"hey, shuichi! let's draw eachother!" kokichi beamed. shuichi giggled as he nodded his head. kokichi made a little victory dance before he dragged shuichi to a table.

kokichi reached for a couple of colour pencils as he started doodling.

a couple of minutes passed and the speaker finally came back on. "alright ladies and gents, be prepared to release your lanterns!"

"hey shumai! i wanna see yours!" kokichi tried to snatch his lantern away.

"w-well, okay.." shuichi reluctantly handed it over.

he had doodled a mediocre sketch of them holding hands. shuichi glanced over to kokichi who now had a small blush on his face.

"h-ha! mine is sooo much better!" kokichi bluffed.

"hey! give it back!"

shuichi had snatched kokichi's lantern while he wasn't looking. he had drew a blueberry and a grape together, representing them.

"i know it's cheesy but i suck at drawing..." kokichi pouted.

"i think it looks great, kichi. now, let's go release the lanterns okay?" shuichi gave kokichi a hug.

"wow! they're so pretty!"

the lanterns had been released and it really was an amazing sight. kokichi was busy taking photos while shuichi stared at him in awe.

shuichi wrapped his arms around kokichi's waist as they looked up, trying to spot their lanterns.

little did they know, their lanterns were drifting away side by side, hopefully never separated.
