CHANELLE

Currently, I was happy. I had received great news. I had a neurosurgery scheduled on Saturday. I did feel sad for the patient, but I've always wanted to perform a surgery on a person's brain. I've been working as a surgeon for almost 4 years and I've not had many brain surgeries. I still had to build up a reputation here and work my way up, besides, not everyone wants a newbie opening up their heads.

My shift was almost over. Barely five minutes left. For a ten hour shift, I wasn't really tired. That's probably because we didn't have too much to handle everyday.

"How's tomorrow gon' be like?" Oh yeah... I was expected to have a party or something.

"Uhm... I'll come to work." A party was so the last thing I had in mind. I honestly just wanted to come to work and go back home, no biggie. I still had next year and more years to come.

Three of them looked at me as if I wore a ripped dress or something. "So you're going to let a whole birthday run out, just like that," Carter said with a risen brow.

Dean came closer and sat on table right in from of me. "We could have a party though. Just you and me, they don't need to be invited." He gestured, slightly moving his head to Lena and Carter's direction and winking at me. He's completely deluded. I wasted no time pushing him off there.

"Do you really have to make everything so disgusting?" That sounded rhetorical from Lena.

Before I could say anything else, I heard my phone ring. "Is there a hospital rule you actually follow?" Carter said the moment he heard my phone ring. I forgot to put it on vibrate.

I smiled when I saw 'Tyrell' pop up on my screen. I was supposed to be pissed at him, but it's been a really long while since he called me at work.

"Is it 'him'?" She probably noticed the smile on my face.

I didn't give her an answer. She probably figured it was him. "Hey," was all I came up with.

"Good day Mrs. Ryder." The smile on my face faded quickly. I rolled my eyes when I heard the voice through the phone. I recognized it. It was Henry. What show of Tyrells do I have to prepare for now. "Mr Ryder wanted me to make sure your shift is over." He sounded impossibly polite.

I glanced at the the clock which hung from the wall. It was almost 6:15. "Yeah it is." Did Tyrell want to take me out or something? Maybe that was too much high hopes, but it wasn't bad to dream though. Why couldn't he call me on his own though.

"Great. You two have dinner scheduled by 8pm at his parents' house." Well there goes my hope. "He said he'll come pick you up by 8."

"Yeah okay." He waited for me to hang up, which I did. Well that was disappointing. On the bright side, I loved my in-laws too, so I guess I'll settle for that.

"That was a really short call." Lena was right. It was short. I didn't necessarily need to reply what she said, it was not a question anyways.

No one said anything for like few nanoseconds, but Dean looked like he had something to say. He always did. "Of course it'll be short. Nigga's boring."

"Just zip it for like one minute, you won't die you know." I didn't need Lena to talk this time.

He just laughed. Kind of like he enjoyed making me feel cringey or something.

I picked up all my things and stuffed them into my bag. "I gotta go now." If I wanted to get myself together before 8pm I needed to leave as soon as possible. I left after saying my regular goodbyes to them.

I finally got home. I spent nearly 30 minutes on the road, it wasn't even Friday yet. Sometimes I wish I lived in a less busy region. Well I better dive into that shower and get ready for this dinner.
