Chapter 5: Peace in music

Taehyung buttoned up his flannel shirt as he walked out of the door. Saturday had finally arrived after a long stressful week.
The tension from work had already started to ease as he started making his way towards the pub. The cold air hit his exposed skin, making him shiver all the more. His feet left imprints on the pavement.
The street lights brightened against the dark sky. Not a single soul was in sight. Taehyung loved it.
He breathed a sigh of relief when gleaming light filled his vision. The pub looked grand with life and decor. He could see hundreds of people having the time of their lives in the tiny space.
So, this is where everyone has been hiding.
Within a minute, Taehyung had entered the lively pub. People were filled with adrenaline, some drunk to their core while some flirted with strangers, whom they're going to regret waking up with the next morning.
His eyes immediately noticed the mop of brown hair sitting next to the bar. He carefully tapped her shoulder.
"Hey there."
Ella turned around as her eyes landed on the well kept man. Her face broke into the biggest grin.
"Hey. You're right on time." Taehyung only shrugged.
"This place is great. You come here a lot?"
"Yeah, I spend my time here every weekend. It's a fun place."
Taehyung's gaze wandered around the entrance as he watched skimpily dressed women make their way in.
"Aren't they a little too dressed up for a simple place like this?" Taehyung said, pointing at said women.
"Oh, they must be here for the club. There's one upstairs."
His mouth curved upwards into a slight smirk.
"You never go there?"
Ella having finished her beer, set the big bottle on the counter.
"No. It's crazy up there. The pub is a lot more laid back. More my type."
"Well, you're not wrong. I don't get out a lot but I think I'll hang around here more often."
They exchanged smiles. Taehyung ordered his virgin cocktail, briefly explaining to Ella that he didn't drink.
As the minutes passed, their words came out more fluently. Shoulders less tense and smiles more reoccurring. The night was still young and people made their way to the little circle in the middle to dance away.
Ella and Taehyung, both agreed against dancing. They sat in their place and watched the mindless drunks make up the most craziest moves.
Taehyung wasn't used to having such a good time, but he wasn't complaining.
Suddenly, the anchor got up on the little stage and spoke, "Next up, we've got our very own regular to sing us another one of our favorite songs. Ella, you're up!"
The sober applauded as they instantly recognized the familiar customer. Ella put her drink down, wiggled her eyebrows at her friend and went up on stage.
"Hey everyone. It's good to be back here. Here's a song to all those who need a good time."
The air grew silent as people eagerly anticipated her performance. Taehyung couldn't help being curious as well.
What all can this woman do?
Soft melody filled the void. Guitar strings were plucked to play a soothing tune. The scene had immediately changed its color.
Soon enough, Ella's voice reached ears. Her sweet tone reminded people of love and bliss. Her calming aura rubbed off on those who listened, smiles immediately broke out on faces.
Taehyung's eyes widened. His ear twitched as he heard her voice. He watched her as she grabbed the mic stand to sing the chorus. Her eyes remained closed as she passionately poured on to the microphone.
Taehyung couldn't explain what he was feeling. His body relaxed and his eyes trained on her. His soul settled for a moment.
For the first time in forever, he felt peace.
All worries left his mind, all sadness evaporated for just a second. His mind only focused on her.
The music brought him to a different place. His eyes shut as he let the rhythm sink into his body.
His mind went blank, his body almost went limp in his seat, his thoughts got erased.
And he was so thankful.
