Impulse is a trans guy but his parents refuse to accept it and still refer to him as a girl.******************************
Tango threw himself on his bed, sobbing. The servants quickly scurried out of the room when they saw the state he was in. Each one of them had heard rumors about his extremely short temper and violent fits of anger. He had heard the whispers going around. Not to mention the tales people spun about his red eyes and horns.
The queen sat on her throne, looking down at her son with an air of disgust as he kneeled at her feet. He searched her eyes for any hint of the woman she had been before his father had died. She had always been distant from Tango but even from afar, he could tell how much she had loved her husband. She had seemed like a good person then: the kind of person who was always laughing; the kind of person who would sneak pastries from the kitchen. The person in front of him now was a cruel, unforgiving witch.
His parents had tried to 'fix him', consulting every healer, magician, and priest in the kingdom to get rid of his devilish qualities. He had gone to countless appointments where people had poked and prodded him, made him eat various herb concoctions, performed spells, even done exorcisms. But Tango simply remained the way he was. Eventually, his father, the king, had learned to accept him and his differences and treated him like a normal child. However, his mother had turned herself away from Tango, only talking to him when absolutely necessary.
"I have finally found you a bride."
He looked up in surprise. The words had come so suddenly, he was half certain he had imagined them.
"M- mother!" He stuttered out.
"My name is Queen Rose."
"What?"
"You will call me Queen Rose."
As far as he was concerned, this was just another piece of evidence that his mother hated him.
Tango heard his bedroom door open with a click. He hastily tried to wipe his tears, expecting to see the queen coming to scold him for his behavior earlier. Instead, he saw a tall, handsome man. He breathed a sigh of relief as Impulse sat down on the edge of his bed. He had no idea how Impulse was able to sneak through the castle so well but he wasn't complaining.
"What's wrong, Tango?"
The question brought back the memory of his argument with his mother, sending silent tears running down his cheeks. He buried his face in Impulse's chest as he rubbed soothing circles in Tango's back. His soft, feminine hands were the only hint of his birth gender. Tango thought of him as a male for so long, it always caught him off guard that Impulse's parents still referred to him as female.
"The king of the neighboring kingdom has agreed to let you marry his daughter. He does not know about your--" She paused for a moment to find the correct word. "-- deformities. And I intend to keep it that way for as long as possible. After you are married, you will move to their castle, hopefully in the dungeons, so I never have to see you again."
"Mothe- Queen Rose, you can't do that!"
She regarded him with something resembling amusement.
"Of course I can. As much I would prefer to just let you starve on the streets, we need to carry on the royal bloodline."
