𝒵𝓊𝓀𝑜 𝓌𝒶𝓉𝒸𝒽𝑒𝒹 in horror as Sokka hoisted Y/n up, her usually vibrant amber eye gushing crimson blood. His blood ran cold.
"Don't come any closer," Sokka warned, pressing his boomerang against her throat, Zuko filling with rage.
"Sokka, what are you doing?" Katara hissed.
"We need the leverage, or he's never going to let us escape," Sokka replied, maintaining eye contact with Zuko.
The prince felt his heart tear open as he heard her unusually small voice softly cry out for him.
I have to save her.
She's going to die!
What do I do?
Is this the same weak boy from the South Pole? If I refuse, will he really be able to kill her?
He couldn't bring himself to take the risk. He put his hands up in surrender, hopelessly watching his best friend be taken away from him.
Zuko kept his blurry eyes trained on the bison until he fell, shaking, to his knees, trying desperately to keep the tears from falling.
"Where's Y/n?" Iroh rushed to his nephew's side, concern lacing his words. The ex-general looked up, watching as Appa disappeared from view. He understood.
Without warning, Zuko yelled into the dark sky, flames erupting from his fists in fury. Iroh wrapped a comforting arm around his shoulders.
"Zhao is responsible for Y/n's injury," Iroh said bitterly.
"Then Zhao will pay," Zuko spat, quickly standing and running out of the Oasis. His vision ran red, rage completely consuming him.
"Zhao!" he shouted, finding the Admiral trying to escape the destroyed tribe. Zuko fired several blasts, jumping down onto the path across from him.
"You're alive?" Zhao stared wide-eyed as Zuko continued to attack.
"You tried to have me killed!" he snarled. "And then you tried to kill Y/n!"
"The Dual Bender is as big a threat as the Avatar," he returned the prince's fire. "She needed to be dealt with, just as you should have been."
"YAGH!" Zuko yelled with anger, only fighting more and more ferociously. With one heavy blast, Zuko drove Zhao off the ledge, the admiral landing with a grunt before returning fire to the prince.
Zuko let his fury control him and viciously attacked Zhao, knocking the older man to the ground.
"I'll kill you!" Zuko roared. "I'll kill you for what you did!"
Suddenly, water erupted from beneath them, the glowing blue claws wrapping around the bridge.
Zuko jumped away quickly, narrowly missing the water's grasp, watching as a struggling Zhao was lifted off the ground and dragged to his death in the freezing waters. Zuko felt guilty for not helping him, but it was only for a moment. If the ocean hadn't done it, he would have.
The prince collapsed, his anger dissolving into despair.
Y/n... are you still alive?
Tears burned his eyes as he recalled her sweet face.
"If you die, I'll kill you," she whispered, holding me tight.
"I won't die, I promise," I replied, looking down at her flustered face. She was always so cute when she was nervous. What is this feeling?
