Duncan Nelson"You may come in now. But—,"
"Great!" I say cutting him off and rushing into Courtney's room. My smile from thinking she would be okay, went to a frown like never before.
"Mr. Nelson! I didn't get to tell you—,"
"Courtney?" I whisper. She was playing with Child's toys and saying her name like she hadn't known herself.
"I'm Courtney. I'm Courtney. I'm Courtney." She said into a mirror. "I'm Court—," She glanced at me and stopped repeating her name.
"Courtney! I'm so glad to see you, I was hoping that nothing would happen to you—,"
"That's great and all, but who are you?"
I stopped and took a step back. The doctor pulled me away to let a person and Courtney keep going over her name.
"What happened to her?" I say tearing up.
"I was trying to tell you before. She has amnesia Duncan."
"Amnesia?"
"Yes. When the car hit her, it damaged her brain which caused a TBI. Amnesia can last from a few minutes to a few months. But if she can't remember her TBI then she most likely will never go back to normal."
"So she is starting back over again."
"Yes. But if you pressure her it could cause the damage to worsen."
"But I'm her dorm roommate!"
"Then you might want to ask for a new dorm at the moment until her memory comes back. She will stay at the hospital for a week and from there we will decide on what to do with her. Might as well go home, get a good night sleep, and slowly start packing up your stuff. It's late Mr. Nelson, and visiting hours closed two hours ago. So please leave before I have to call security to escort you out."
"Okay. Just please try to help Courtney remember me. Please."
"We can't force her to remember you. The most important person she needs to know is her self. And as you could see, this is already a big challenge enough. Now goodbye."
So like to doctor said, I left. And didn't come back.
