The truth- part 2

Eli POV

          Me and the whole party walked to lunch as usual, I told the boys not to ask Max any questions, I didn't want her to feel any worse than she already was.
"Where are you going?" I asked
"To sit at the table?" Max said
"No way, get over here." I took her hand and dragged her into the lunch line with me.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm buying you lunch."
"No" She let go of my hand and started to back up. "I can't do that, it's your money."
"It's okay, I want to."
"But wouldn't your parents be mad?"
"My parents are rich."
"Holy shit, seriously!"
"Yeah, so let me buy you lunch, anything."
"Anything?"
"Yeah, come on." I held my hand out and she took it excitedly like a little kid getting to choose any toy they wanted from the toy store.
"C-Can I have this." She pointed at an apple
"Of course, you can have more."
"Really?"
"Yes Max, really." She smiled and walked around grabbing a bunch of different things, I didn't mind at all. Once everything was paid for we went to our table where Max right away dug into her food, she was definitely starving. The boys all watched in surprise the way she was eating, Mike looked disgusted.
"Jeez, don't you eat enough." Max stopped and looked down sadly I glared at Mike.
"I'm sorry." Max said, I was going to say something but she stood up and left clearly sad and embarrassed.
"Mike!" Will said
"It's gross! She eats like no one taught her manners."
"That's because no one did!" I said, Mike looked confused, I stood up and took Max' lunch tray out of the room. I walked around for a little and found Max sitting up against the lockers crying. "Hey." I said softly, I sat down next to her and held her lunch out to her.
"I can't."
"What, why not?"
"I eat like an animal."
"Well, it's not your fault."
"Yeah it is."
"Max-"
"E-Eli...can you just, leave me alone."
"No."
"W-What?"
"I'm not going to leave you alone."
"W-Why?"
"Because I care about you and I want to help you, not leave you." Max teared up again, I hugged her from the side and rubbed her back.
"why?"
"Why what?"
"Why do you care about me so much?"
"Because I can, and I like seeing people happy, so I'm gonna do whatever I can to make you happy. Because from what I know, you don't deserve the bad things that come in your life, I bet you have the best life ever ahead of you."
"Yeah right."
"Who knows."

Max POV

              I left my house because Susan had a guy over, it was our neighbor Billy, I didn't want to witness that so I left. I didn't feel like going to the arcade this time so I went down to the quarry to look at the water, maybe to drown myself. When I got there I spotted Dustin sitting there sobbing.
"Dustin?" He jumped up and wiped away the tears on his face.
"Max, w-what are you doing here?" I shrugged
"Are you okay?"
"Shit, don't be an idiot!" I took a step back in fear. "Do I look okay?! No! I'm clearly not!" Tears threatened to fall from my face,
"I'm sorry." I whispered
"Max?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you angry." No matter how hard I tried the tears fell. I didn't want to make him any more angry then he was so I ran, I was scared he would do something to me.
"Wait, Max! Max!"
         I wasn't sure where I was running to but I let my legs guide me, when my vision came back I ended up in front of the arcade where the rest of the party was standing, I wiped away my tears and did my best to act cool.
"Hey guys."
"You've got to be kidding me." Mike said
"Mike!" Will and Eli said in unison
"This was the one time she's not coming with us and now she's here."
"Dude, this is a public place." Lucas said
"Yeah but she comes up to us like we're her friends or like she's in our party. You're not in our party!" Tears welled in my eyes again but quickly disappeared, that's when I knew I didn't belong anywhere, no one wanted me around.
"I'm...sorry." I walked away with no emotion this time, as I walked back to the house I knew what had to be done.

Eli POV

"What the hell Mike!" I shoved at him
"She doesn't ever leave us alone!"
"You're a fucking bastard!-"
"Guys! Guys!" Dustin said riding up to us on his bike.
"Whatever it is Dustin it's not important right now!"
"Yes it is! It's Max. Have you seen her?" He panted dropping his bike.
"Why? What happened?"
"I was at the quarry, I was a little upset because my cat died and so I was crying and Max came and she asked if I was okay but I just yelled at her. I really hurt her feelings and I need to apologize."
"Hell yeah you do! Both you and Mike!" Will said
"What, why me?!" Mike shouted
"Because she's going through a lot and you guys are only making it worse, I mean look at what happened at school this morning, she was crying, everyone didn't think much of it and now they think she's a freak!"
"Well what kind of things is she going through!?" Mike asked in an uncaring tone.
"Mike...she's being abused." Mikes face dropped into shock he couldn't believe his ears, I had told Will earlier because I wanted at least one other person to know in case anything happened and I wasn't around for Max.
"W-What kind of abuse."
"Emotional, physical, verbal, Domestic. Terrible things." Both Dustin and Mikes jaws dropped
"I gotta go find her." Dustin jumped back on his bike and left without another word.
"I...didn't know." Mike said
"Even though you didn't there was no excuse to be like that towards her!"
"Yeah..." Mike looked down. "But there are still certain things she can't know."
"We know that Mike but, cut her some slack, she needs support right now." I said
