(Y/N)'s POV

"You could have told us the truth."
Reo said with a heavy voice while leaning against the wall with arms crossed, as he looked down on you moving around your living room and packing bags.
You stopped to look at him and mustered a guilty voice, "It was classified."
He looked away. "The ANBU base is isolated. Even if I am allowed in, I wouldn't be able to see you everyday."
"I'd come back here when the mission ends." You shrugged.
"And when would that be?" Reo asked firmly.
You glanced towards his direction with reassurance, "Someday."

There was a knock making Reo pull himself off the wall to answer the door.
You felt the very familiar chakra from the other side of the door and prepared yourself.

"Senpai." Reo greeted him.
Kakashi nodded and his eyes immediately widened at the scene.
"Are you going somwhere?" He asked closing the door behind him.
"Yes." You answered while packing cutlery and avoiding Kakashi's eyes.
"Where? And why?!"
Unable to answer her, you cursed the situation you were in.

There was a chilling silence soon broken by your tall bestfriend.
"She is moving to the ANBU base, leaving her home and identity back here, for - Agh! - the mission." Reo jerked his hand aside while glaring at you.
Kakashi's nose wrinkled from under his mask. "Hmm."
Reo grabbed the door knob, "I will be back in a few hours to help."

Being left alone with him you took the opportunity to step towards Kakashi and reached for his hand.
"(Y/N), this mission is a landmine. I can lose you anytime if you keep walking on it. Itachi is dangerous."
You began to say something but restrained yourself. This reaction made Kakashi even more suspecious.
He retreated his arm out of your grasp, which came as nothing less than a shock to you.

He exhaled and closed his eyes.
"(Y/N). He is an unforgivable mass murderer. The objective of this mission is nothing more than fishing for intel. However, this is more personal when it comes to the two of you. I would never question your intentions or loyalty to the Leaf, but I know you're hiding something from me. You care about Itachi in whatever way that is. So clearly, when it comes to him, I don't trust you!"
You cupped your face with both hands to calm yourself.
His words "I don't trust you" kept rining in your ears.

"And now, you're working in Danzo's Root to further pursue this god forsaken mission that I loathe!" He shook his head.
"(Y/N), I feel helpless!" He grabbed your shoulders with both hands. "I can't stand even the idea of you being close to him! How can you physically be this close to another man while I live?"
"Kakashi." Your voice cracked as your vision blurred with tears.
He lift your chin up so you would meet his eye. "What is it?"
"I love you, too." You whispered.
He looked confused and relieved at the same time.
"I didn't say it back last night." You said.
His grip on your shoulders loosened. He was at a loss of words.

You placed a palm on his vest and gently spoke. "I know you don't trust me. This is why I must leave for now."
His eye kept shuffling between yours.
"Kakashi, Can you wait for me?" You leaned closer.
You expected him to struggle for an answer, but he reacted by pressing his forehead against yours.
"I can, and will do anything to be with you for as long as we live. I don't question the strength of our love."
A smile of relief appeared on your lips.
"However, I am unsure of my own strength when it comes to you and Itachi. Are you really going to stay as close to him as you were last night?"

Your smiled turned into a frown. "Last night, I was healing him as a part of the mission. Our meetings have to be secluded because no one from Akatsuki or the Leaf must find out about them. You should also know that he treats me as a friend. He has no alter intentions, and neither do I. This is nothing more than a mission to me. My emotions are not involved."
