The Proposal

"Can't we stay like this forever?" Kakashi pouted while gently running his fingers between the locks of your hair.
You chuckled shifting your head from his shoulder towards his neck, "I thought you made plans for the night."
"Hmm. Only if you promise that we'll hold each other like this again as soon as we get back."
You grinned. "I have a clingy boyfriend."
You could feel a smile pulling on his face.

There was a long sweet silence before he kissed the top of your head. "We should get going. I am too impatient now."
You wondered why he was this excited for tonight but you had your own matter to worry about.

"Where can I freshen up?" You pulled away from him and his bed when he pointed to the hallway on the left.
"I'll be right back." You smiled at him before stealing a soft kiss from his lips.
His eyes followed your silhouette as you left the room. "Don't go missing." You heard him groan from behind, making you chuckle.

You carefully locked the door behind you and scanned the walls till you found a window.
You exhaled almost inaudibly.
"Kagebunshin no jutsu"
With a poof of smoke you created a perfect shadow clone.

"He is smarter than this, but I must take the risk." You cursed as you made your way out of the window leaving the clone behind.

"Just hold on a little longer, Itachi. I am on my way."

Kakashi's POV

You put on your vest and checked your pockets to make sure you had everything you needed for the night.
You heard to door open and faced the hallway with anticipation.
"Ready?" You asked with a smile as she appeared.
She straightened herself up before nodding.
"She looks cute when she is nervous." You thought to yourself while admiring.
You escorted her out and soon you were on the way to your destination for the night.

"(Y/N)" You called out to the woman walking besides you, which made her flinch a little."Maybe I should not ask you this, but I was curious about this since quite a while."
"Hmm?" She tilted her head.
"You see, I recently found out that you were training in the temple of fire for fifteen months. I was just wondering where you were for the rest of those nine months." You glanced at her stotic face and added, "You know, since you were away for two years."
"The Sand village." She answered while her sight was fixated on the ground below.
"Oh? A part of the training?" You further enquired.
"Yes. I had to see Chiyo. She is a retired legendary ninja from the sand village. I went to her for some training." She answered.
"Ahh!" You remarked while involuntarily pulling her closer by the arm. "So what cool jutsu did you learn from her?"
You noticed (Y/N)'s face turning visibly lighter. "It wouldn't matter since I can't use it anymore. I am no longer a shinobi."
"Hmh!" You chuckled, "You are one of the strongest shinobi I know. The Hokage will call you back soon. Specially since he is growing old. You could even replace him as the Hokage if you ask me. That's how much I believe in you."
You smiled locking eyes with her which she genuinely returned.

The rest of the walk was silent and pleasant. Not long after, you had reached the river shore where a neat seating arrangement was waiting for the two of you.
"We're here." You smirked.
She was left in awe by the sense of the place you had decorated, just like the night after the time you confessed your feelings for each other.

She walked ahead while you stood there watching her admire your work like a child. "You did this?" She exclaimed.
You nodded moving towards her.
"Candles and flowers!" She cheered. "And there is dinner too? You did all this for me?"
You took both of her hands in yours. "For us."
"Why?" She frowned.
You couldn't help but smile widely at her reactions.
"I wanted to do this many years ago. The night you wrote me that letter. The night you left the village with Lord Jiraiya."
"B-But" She fumbled.
You squeezed her hands gently. "I have been waiting for this, all these years. And tonight the wait ends."
"Wha-"

(Y/N)'s POV

The swing from your opponent's sword managed to reach your skin as a shallow cut seemed to have appeared on your arm. You felt the warm blood trail down but it wasn't enough to faze you.
"Stay down!" You yelled at Itachi you was attempting to assist you. However, he was too weak to stand, let alone fight.
"I've got this!" You fought hard with your sword and fire which hardly had an effect since it began to rain.

Kakashi's POV

"(Y/N)" You spoke while rubbing circles on the back of her hand with your thumb.
"To me it was already decided the day I got to hold you in my arms for the first time. Although, admittedly we were drunk out of our senses that night."
She chuckled and you continued.
"I realized you were my future. And even thought, it was a long wait.." You stepped closer looking into her eyes.
"I cannot wait any second longer to ask you this."
You pulled yourself down on one knee and took out the box from your pocket.
The love and curiosity she had in her eyes were now overflowing as she widened them at the sight before her.

You sighed preparing yourself and taking in the moment.

"(Y/N)? My love? Will-"

(Y/N)'s POV

"(Y/N)!" You heard Itachi cry as the edge of your opponent's sword managed to slice through the back of your leg, making you fall to the ground.
You saw a figure making it's way towards you. You were too late before you could hoist yourself back up in defence.

Kakshi's POV

"..Will you marry me?"
There it was, and now you waited for her response.
Tears began to trail down her face as she dropped herself into your arms.
"Yes! Yes!! I million times yes!" She cried! "I love you so much, Kakashi!"

You managed to pull the both of you off the ground and took her into your embrace while breathing heavily in her hair.
"I love you more, my one and only."
You took the ring from the box and held it over her finger.
"May I?"
"Yes please!" She sobbed.
Feeling like the luckiest man in the world, you took the ring closer to her finger and slid it almost all the way in - when in a split of the second your reality changed into the worst imaginable outcome.

(Y/N)'s POV

You took a hard hit to the head which launched you across the field. You felt a certain jerk before you landed on the ground.
"Oh,No! No no no!" You cried in disbelief as you realized what had happened.
Because of the strong blow you took, the shadow clone you left with Kakashi had disappeared.
"Shit-" You cursed, almost losing your consciousness.
A faint call from Itachi was the last thing you heard before losing all senses.

Kakashi's POV

The world stopped moving as the sound of the ring hitting the wooden deck reached your ears.
With a flash and smoke, your fiance had disappeared.
The reality was yet to hit you, but the sudden lack of (Y/N)'s presence infront of your eyes was enough to break your heart.
The ringing in your ear took a while to stop, although the time appeared to have stopped as well.
"It w-was a shadow clone." You stuttered with wide eyes and parted lips. This feeling was absolutely devestating.

With immense efforts you bent down and picked up the ring which was just on your fiance's finger. Or so you thought.
Anger took over the other emotions as your palm which held the ring began to shake.
"A fool. That's who I am." You said to yourself while clenching your jaw.
Still unable to process the situation, you decided to leave the sight to escape this reality.

"Kakashi! Over here!"

You looked up to see your group of friends waiting for you down the shore and found Guy waving at you. "How did it go?"
"Where is (Y/N)?" Reo yelled.
You mindlessly started walking towards the direction of the noise.
The voices subsided as you approached them. They seemed confused.
Tenzo placed his hand on your shoulder. "She said yes, didnt she Senpai?"
There was a hollow silence when you didn't respond.

You held out your hand which was still visibly shaking and dropped the ring to the ground as you began to walk away.

"I proposed to a Shadow clone."
