Chapter 5:
Kendal's POV
Rick was making pancakes for me and the crew so I just relaxed on the sofa. It was 12 in the afternoon. And Maddi wasn't up yet. We had the tryouts today so I thought she would be up early. Normally she sleeps till about 9:30 or 10 so this was unusual for her. I slowly got up and walked into her room. She was covered in like 10 blankets but instead of laying on the bed, she was collapsed on the floor. I grabbed my phone and turned on her favorite song. Then I cranked up the volume and set it next to her ear. She sat up super quickly and looked around. "What the heck Kendal I'm trying to sleep here." "There's my sassy girl!" I smirked at her. She got up and walked into the bathroom to take a shower. I went back to the couch and finished my movie. The door opened and in walked Brian. "I got y'all a surprise for good luck at tryouts!" Right on cue, Maddi walked in wearing her old, worn nike pros and an ICE tshirts that she got from one of our competitions. In her hair was a plain white bow. She saw Brian and immediately walked over to give him a kiss on the cheek. He handed her a bag that said Academy Sports and Rick handed me one. When I saw what was in the bag my heart stopped. There was a new pair of black nike pros with a neon yellow sports bra, also from nike. There was a gorgeous royal blue bow and a pair on new nfinities. Maddi got a royal blue sports bra and a neon yellow bow with the same pros and nfinities. This was a cheerleader's dream come true. We both hugged our boys and ran to go change. "I'm so nervous to tryout. What if I don't make it?" Maddi asked. "Eddie and Orby specifically asked us to tryout. They bought us a house and flew us to Cali free of charge. I don't think they would waste all that money on people who don't have potential for smoed." I commented. "You've got a point." Maddi said with her cheerful voice. We changed and then realized tryouts were at 2:45. It was 1 right now. "Crap the pancakes!" We heard from the wall. I grabbed two white chocolate macadamia clif bars and my cheer bag with 2 bottles of water. One for my bestie and one for me. We double checked our bags and once everything was in place, we started for the door. "Sorry about the pancakes guys. I guess I'm not as good at cooking as I think I am." Rick sheepishly grinned. "It's okay Hun. But we gotta go try out to be on smoed. Hopefully our fulls look better than yours." He blushed at the thought of his failed full. I walked out the door and sat in the passengers seat of Maddi's brand new white jeep wrangler. Her parents got her it as a surprise. She turned the ignition and we made our way to the most known gym in California. This was it. This determined our future in cheerleading. We gave each other a quick hug after getting out of the car and walked into a huge gym. My dream was coming true.
