Chapter 6:
Kendal's POV
We walked into the gym hand in hand and took a deep breath. This was nerve wracking but the most exciting thing I had ever done in my life. Me and Maddi sat down and started stretching. We heard someone clear their throat above us. I looked up and standing there was a girl. She had black hair with seriously outgrown chunky blonde streaks and black eyeliner around her entire eye. She wasn't exactly the definition of striking. I stood up and she trusted her hand at me. I didn't exactly know what she was doing but then she said in some weird accent "You're supposed to shake it my hand now sweetheart." Maddi glared at her from behind me. "And you are?" Maddi asked. "I am Brianna. AKA California bullets point flyer." I kept looking at her and determined the blonde streaks weren't the only chunky thing about her. "But this year I'm trying out for smoed. Watch your backs guys. Oh, and break a leg." She half-smiled and rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Just ignore her. There's no way she's going to be point flyer, or even make it on smoed." Maddi reassured me. We both stretched each other's bow tilts and needles. Then off to tumbling. I did my famous pass and Maddi tried a new one. She landed perfectly. This pass was sure to garuntee her a spot on the most famous gym in the world. Tryouts officially started now. It was 2:45. Eddie sauntered into the gym wearing black sweatpants, nike running shoes and a tshirt that said "Live in the smoment." I had to say, that was pretty darn cute. "Okay ladies and gentlemen, if any of you are not okay with intense pressure, conditioning and moody coaches, now is your time to leave." Several people walked out. "Now that we have all the lazy people gone, its time to work." We all chuckled. "Flyers go to the left of the mat and bases and backspots go to the right corners. "Maddi and I along with the brat Brianna walked over to the left. A couple of others went to the left too. "Alright. Bases and backspots sit down and flyers form a line. We want to see your body positions. Brianna walked to the center of the mat and did left and right heel stretch. Left was okay but right was barely off the ground. Then she did a hideous dorito scorpion. Literally the room was dead silent and no one clapped. When Maddi went however, there were lots of "WOW!"s and "DANG!"s. She was definitely point for this year. Next, I went and got almost the same amount of attention as my best friend. Then it was time for stunting. Maddi was point and i was right behind her. As you can imagine, Bratanna (her new nickname) was in the corner, barley visible. We tried a rewind to lib, tick tock to left heel stretch, turn to needle, open to scale and then full down. Then came partner stunts. We fulled up to right heel stretch tick tock to bow, scale, cupie, then kick up needle. We did a kick full down from the needle. It was pretty complicated but Maddi hit perfectly and so did I. Next was tumbling. Both of us did the passes we had been working on. I went last and everyone was screaming for me. Eddie dismissed us and said the results would be in tonight at 10. I drove home and let Maddi rest. But instead of driving home, I drove to Starbucks. I sat down in one of the comfy chairs across from Maddi. We talked about the day and made plans to go see a celebratory movie after we saw the results. We arrived home and got lots of hugs from the guys. We all ate dinner together and then swam in the pool for a while. It was starting to get dark so all of us decided on going inside and checking the computer for the results. We pulled the smoed page up and it listed who was point flyer and last pass. The point flyer was Maddi. She squealed in excitement and we all jumped on her hugging and celebrating. I for sure thought I was going to be last pass but Brianna was. Hmm that's odd I thought. The brat only had a layout. I skimmed the list and went down to the C's. The names were arranged in last name order. My name wasn't there. I checked the K's too just incase they messed up. A silent tear rolled down my face as I ran upstairs from the basement and grabbed the keys to my car. I could hear everyone running up the stairs calling for me to come back. Everything was a blur as I started the car and pulled out of the driveway. I came to California for nothing. I soon had a plan for what I was going to do. I drove straight for the airport, not caring that I left all my belongings inside the house.
