JAYLA
"where are we going?" I asked Landon as he drove down a busy highway. The wind blew my hair into my face. I watched as Landon quickly, and smoothly changed lanes. "just showing you how to get to the mall and stuff. You know, so you don't get bored at the school."he said. Focusing on the road. "oh. Great. I've been getting tired of the food." I said. "I know. I could tell." he said. He smiled as he drove. "you could?" I said. Wondering how he could tell. We only ran into each other twice. I wonder what he was doing at the school cafe on a Saturday? He said he grew up here, so it wouldn't make sense for him to be dorming. "yea. I've seen you couple times in the cafe. You always had that slightly annoyed look. As if something was bothering you. I figured it was the food since you hardly ate it. Mostly picking at it." he said. "you've been watching me?" I asked. A bit shocked. "is it weird if I say yes?" he smiled. "kinda." I laughed. "well then, yes I have. But not stalkerish. Just out of curiosity."he said. "curiosity?" I looked at him. "yes. I was curious to who you were." he said slowly, almost like he didn't want to speak the truth but did anyway. "why?"I said. "why not?" he answered my question with a question. I sighed. "what were you doing at the cafeteria today? I doubt you're dorming." I said. "I had to meet with a friend." he said. "oh. I see." I said. "and I was hoping I'd see you again. I was hoping to talk to you sometime. Hence the rushing toward the elevators yesterday." he said casually. "huh. I just thought you didn't want to wait for the next elevator." I said. "well I would have taken the stairs if I missed the elevator. And I don't mind the stairs but I saw an opportunity and took it." he said, pulling into a large parking structure. I hadn't realized we were here until the car was parked and Landon was unbuckling his seat belt. There was no way I could remember how to get here. I was so into our conversation, I wasn't paying attention. I unbuckled my seat belt and got out. I saw my reflection in the window and it was not a pretty sight. My hair was a mess from the wind. I ran my fingers through and tied it up. Landon got out of the car as I finished. "so, what do you want to do?" he asked. We began to walk towards the mall.
"I guess just explore the mall for now?" I said. "that's fine. It gives us a chance to talk more." he said. Landon's confidence and smoothness reminded me of Sebastian. I sighed and pushed the thought of Sebastian out of my mind. "that's great" I said.
"so is it your first year in college?" he asked as we passed several stores. The mall was flowing with consumers. Mostly teens, which was expected on a weekend. "no this is actually almost my third year. After this semester it'll be my third year." I said. Landon looked confused. "when did you graduate high school?" he said. "I'm supposed to be graduating this year." I said. "so you're taking college and high school courses?" he asked. "no just college. I tested out of high school my sophomore year and immediately started taking college courses." I said. I could almost hear the taunting as I mentioned high school. "Head start. That's good." he said. "what about you?" I asked. Landon looked like he just graduated. "after this semester it will be one year." he said. So he had just recently graduated. "I see." I said. We walked by Music Central. In the display window, there was a black grand piano and then behind it, rows of numerous instruments. Landon caught me ogling the the store. "you want to go in?" he smiled. "sure." I said. We walked into the large store. Lined up were different types of instruments. Music Central was one of the biggest companies ever, that had their own line of instruments. Expensive ones too. Landon and I walked around, it almost felt like a museum. "do you play?" he asked. "mmm. No I don't. I listen to a lot of classical music though" I said. I stopped in front of a wall that had Music Central's history and a large photo of the family that currently owned it. Down the wall were previous owners. I read the bio. "music central began in 1804 by John B. Harrison in Tulsa, Oklahoma." I kept on reading. I looked at the pictures of owners. Starting at the very beginning, till I finally reached the present photo. Something in my mind clicked. It was a slow reaction but I finally caught on. "you're Landon Harrison. Your family owns this company." I said. I looked at the picture. I spotted Landon, his hair had been black in the picture and short. He stood with what looked like his parents, and three girls. They all had the same dirty blond hair Landon had now. I wonder why he had dyed it in this photo. "yes I am." he said. Something about the way he answered sounded like he got asked that question a lot. Which he probably did. "that's cool." I said and continued walking, looking at the rest of the store. "I'm surprised you're not asking me a ton of questions." he said. "like what?" I said as we headed out of Music Central. "you know, about my family and stuff like that." he said. "well I read the bio and if you wanted to tell me, you would have done so by now. So why bug you about it." I said. Landon probably got annoyed by the attention his family had. They were rich. "hm good point." he smiled and continued to walk around the mall.
