JAYLA
5.
I woke up late this morning. It was already 11am. Thank goodness it was Sunday. I groaned and reluctantly got out of bed. I took a shower and got dressed in a comfy large shirt and fuzzy shorts. I sat on my bed. Had yesterday really happened? Landon and I? I sighed. My chest ached. What if the same thing happened with Landon like what had happened with Sebastian? Would I be mending another heartbreak? I pushed away the thought. I walked over my keyboard that was in the corner of the room. I hadn’t played it in a while. I wasn’t an expert but I could play a little. Not as good as Sebastian. I took off the black cloth that protected the piano and sat at the bench. Stroking the keys, I closed my eyes. It brought back so many memories.
I then turned it on and began to play Reverie. I messed up a couple times but continued playing. I was only a beginner in the hopes of one day mastering Gaspard De La Nuit. I smiled as I played. If I actually practiced with Sebastian, I’d be a little better. Instead of rehearsing, we’d just hang out instead. My heart ached at the thought. So I missed him. I really did. He filled my dreams sometimes and when I awoke, I’d be filled with longing and loneliness.
I stopped playing abruptly. It brought back too many memories and raw feelings. I walked back to my bed and sat down. I looked at the wedding invitation. Did I want to go? Was I ready to face everyone? I knew that it was inevitable. I’d have to face them sometime. I couldn’t hide forever and Scarlet would drag me to the wedding. At least I was attending alone. The thought of Landon being there frightened me. Him meeting Sebastian, Sebastian meeting him. It was a recipe for disaster. No. I couldn’t bring Landon and he couldn’t find out about the wedding. He’d be upset that I hadn’t invited him.
Setting the invitation aside, I started to fill out the RSVP when a knock on my door sounded. I only had filled out my name on the RSVP. I put the pen and card on the bed next to the invitation and went to answer the door.
“Hey there.” Landon said. His hair tousled, eyes shining brightly, smiling widely. I returned the smile. “Hello.” I said, ushering him inside. I noticed that he wore dark jeans and a gray graphic tee. He had blue Ray Bans nestled on his head. “What are you up to?” he asked, taking a seat on my bed. “nothing really.” I then eyed the invitation that was still on the bed. Crap. I forgot to put it away. “Oh. Cool. Any plans today?” he asked. I tore my eyes away from the invitation and looked at him. “No. Why don’t we go out to eat. Like right now.” I smiled. “Sure. Sounds great.” He said. “Great lets go.” I said. “Uh, did you want me to change into a baggy shirt as well?” He smiled. I looked down. Ugh I was still in my comfy clothes. “ha. Ha. I’ll change.” I said. I rushed toward the closet and grabbed a pair of jeans and a chiffon top. I quickly changed in the bathroom and made myself presentable. When I got out, something in Landon changed.
He looked like he was in deep thought. I wonder what could be bugging him. I looked at the invitation. There was no doubt he read it. I sighed. “Ready?” I asked. he looked up and gave a small smile. “Oh yea. You look great.” He stood and walked towards me. Landon pulled me into a hug. I hugged him back, resting my head on his chest. He kissed the top of my head. I suddenly felt at peace.
“Landon, how would you like to attend a wedding with me this Saturday?” I said against his chest. I looked up at him. He looked happy that I asked him. “I’d love to.” He said and smiled. “Great.” I smiled back. Though in the inside I was mentally cursing at myself. What had I just done? I just opened a door that would only bring in disaster. I just felt bad for Landon. He was nothing but nice to me and I was positive he felt saddened that I hadn’t invited him to the wedding. “I can’t wait. I’ll get to meet your friends.” He said. I groaned inwardly. “Yea. Me either. You’re gonna like them.” I said. But I did know that Blake or Sebastian wouldn’t be very fond of Landon. “Excellent.” He said and kissed me on the lips that made my toes curl.
