I was always the quiet type at school. A shy, timid girl that hated to be in the center of attention. My best friends, Kayla and Alisha, were the fun type. They loved to go to parties, hang with boys and be total rebels. I couldn't believe we were actually friends!

One day at school, me and my friends were sitting in the canteen when someone walked passed talking to his friend. His name was James and I had a massive crush on him! He was smart, cute, funny and kind. He said, "Did you hear? Some kid went to that old mansion in the cemetery last week and hasn't been seen since." There were rumors that someone, or something, was in the old mansion, killing anyone that dared to go in. I can't lie, it did give me a nightmare or two.

After lunch it was time to go to fifth period. We had Maths, the worst lesson of the day. Luckily, me, Kayla and Alisha sat on the same table. They sat opposite me on a four seated table. However, it was only the three of us so we could talk to each other without anyone bothering us. After our teacher, Mr Smith, gave us our work sheets about fractions we started to talk instead of doing the hard work that we were supposed to do. "So, what do you think of that kid that went missing in that old mansion?" Kayla asked.

"I think it's quite scary knowing that something is killing innocent people." I replied.

"Don't act like a scared cat! I think it's awesome." Alisha said.

"I have a dare for you girls." A voice said sincerely. One of the boys in my year, Tom Andrews, turned around and smiled. "I dare you to go up to that haunted mansion tomorrow. Let's see if you come out alive." The next day was Saturday so we could, unfortunately, have all the time we wanted in there. But that wasn't the plan. "Tomorrow night at midnight you shall go through the doors and enter the mansion. The only way out is the front and back door because all of the windows are boarded up. You have to explore the whole house before you step out of them doors."

"I accept." Kayla laughed.

"I accept." Alisha echoed. "What about you Lucy?" My heart started to beat like a drum. I didn't want to go but if I didn't go then people would call me a chicken. "I accept." The words spewed out of me like lava. I didn't know why I said that. It was accidental! "It's sorted then! Meet me at the entrance to the cemetery at ten to twelve." Tom said, grinning. "Hey, James. You want to see these girls have the fright of their lives?" James turned to look at us. He sat next to Tom in Maths. It's quite a coincidence really because they are best friends, like us. "Sure." He smiled. He looked straight at me. I tried not to gain eye contact because I go all silly when I look into my crushs' eyes. "Are you okay with this Lucy?" I nodded and continued with my work as the others talked. I knew that the next day would probably be the day I kicked the bucket.
