Macey sat on Trent's couch, waiting for Paxton to arrive. Trent's mom placed two plates of snack on the coffee table in front of them.

"So, Macey, what a pretty name." His mom told her, Macey smiling in return, "Thanks."

"Hey. Sorry I'm late." Paxton said as he entered the living room, Macey smiling.

"Paxton!" Trent's mom said excitedly, wrapping the boy in a hug, "Oh my goodness. All that swimming has really given you some muscles. If your prom date cancels on you, you know where to find me."

Macey almost choked on air, absolute air, while hearing that.

"At the nearest wine bar." Trent's mom whispered, Macy choking on air for real this time.

"You good?" Trent asked, not taking his eyes from the television.

"I'm good." She answered, exhaling deeply.

Paxton chuckled, "Thanks. I'm not too worried, though. I've been going to prom since seventh grade."

"Bet you could pick me up and throw me." Trent's mom said softly, Macey's eyes widening as she stuffed a cookie in her mouth.

Yikes.

"Mom! Get out! We need to do our project." Trent told his mom, her smiling at Paxton before exiting the room.

Paxton and Trent started filling their faces with food, Macey furrowing her eye brows.

"So... should we start brainstorming some ideas?" Macey suggested.

"Mm, yeah. I got a really good idea. What if there was an app that turns your phone into a gun?" Macey's face went blank while staring at the boy.

"Then you can kill the Nazis with your gun. Bam, war is over." Trent continued.

"So, like, how would your app turn your phone into a gun?" Macey questioned.

In that moment, she couldn't hide the facial expression saying Trent was an idiot. What did you expect, though? Him to be some genius?

"Same way Transformers work. You just push a button, and it does it." He replied.

"Okay. Good idea, Trent." Bad idea, "Since we are brainstorming, I actually have some ideas, too."

"Awesome. Let's see what you got, Lil' M." Paxton responded, Macey freezing as she was looking through her papers.

Oh shit! He just gave her a nickname, and you only give a nickname to someone your going to see more than once!

"Did you see Zoey's insta?" Trent asked Paxton, staring intently at his phone, "She posted a boomerang of her doing jumping jacks."

"Shut up." Paxton said, leaning in to watch the boomerang.

"Dude, let me see!" Paxton exclaimed, grabbing the phone from Trent.

Macey's face fell, her sighing before looking through her papers once more.

. . .

That afternoon, Macey was at the end of her driveway, getting mail from her mailbox, until someone approached her.

"Hi, Macey!" Lana Hudson greeted.

A.K.A the woman who her father saved in the fire, resulting in her own father dying. She is only about twenty-years old, but Macey still couldn't help but hate her. Yet, everyday Lana shows up at their doorstep, giving them cookies, a pie, casserole, really anything to try to win the family over. Macey's mother liked Lana, but Luke and Macey? Not so much, but especially Macey.
