Easton's POV:
After a sleepless night of tossing and turning with my mind roaming over everything Witch Li had told us, my heart ached. What do I do? Catori is so excited at the possibility of starting our family now that we know how, but the thought of heading home without her and being separated for months on end is daunting.
I grip her close to me a little tighter as she snuggles her face into the crook of my neck. She sleeps so soundly, a small smile resting on her beautiful face. What I'd give to be a father.. but I can't see myself without her by my side. Without her companionship and guidance, without her warmth and love. Closing my eyes I try to get some rest before morning light.
Stirring from my slumber I find her pillow tucked between my arms but Catori is gone, bolting from the bed I stand taking in my surroundings, no scent of fear.. nothing out of place, then I hear it, her giggles and clinking sounds. I blink the sleep away a couple of times before realizing she must have probably gone to join Witch Li in the kitchen for breakfast and let me sleep a bit longer. Not being at home is putting a bit of a strain on my senses.
I head out of the room quietly as my gaze lands on my very happy mate, she's cracking eggs into a bowl while Witch Lee stands at the stove cooking up some sausages. "Good Morning ladies, need a hand?" I ask making my presence known. Catori beams her beautiful smile at me, while Witch Li nods happily. "Sure could you please start some coffee, the coffee beans are in the upper right cabinet. Thank you."
Soon we're sitting at the breakfast table with eggs, sausage, fresh steaming hot biscuits with a side of butter and fresh honey, our mugs of coffee and the best of company. Laughing and talking about Lance, Logan and the family. Our pack back home and Healer Heaney. Finally I'm starting to relax after spending the day with Witch Li getting to know her, helping her out in the garden and mending whatever she needed fixed.
By mid afternoon Catori opted for taking a bath while I hung out on the porch observing the trees and nature around us, things seem calm and steady. Birds chirping and critters doing their own thing all around, no fear or imbalanced ecosystem. Witch Li takes a seat in her rocking chair next to me. "Easton my child, I'd like to address some of your concerns and fears." she says to me with a motherly tone, her wise eyes taking in my unspoken tension.
"I won't beat around the bush. Catori is a very very special being, her kind is rarely left to live and with her extra requirements she must be watched after carefully. As you know for most weres being pregnant is something done in the flesh and there's no shifting back and forth during pregnancy after the first trimester. For her it's essential to be in her fur since it's what provides the ideal environment for your offspring." Taking a sip of her tea, she rocks slowly before continuing on.
"Catori's parents are not common werewolves, it was difficult to trace her lineage on her father's side. He's not a were at all, actually he's an ancient dragon shifter. Probably one of the last of his kind, much older than myself. I had a talk with her about this early this morning, she took it much better than I anticipated, but I'm sure she's still in a bit of shock."
I stare at her feeling a little overwhelmed but keeping silent as to not interrupt her train of thought, so I just nod while gripping my chair's arm rest. Seeing she has my full attention she continues on. "There is a very strong spell that has bound Catori down since she was forming in the womb, cast upon her mother which even I cannot undo. It must run it's course, I don't know why it was set upon her parents though I have a suspicion. So for this curse to end Catori must have her own offspring, she must carry them to term and she must remain away from society during her first trimester, in her case once the second semester has been completed she should be able to shift back into her flesh safely without harming herself of the baby in her womb. During pregnancy the curse won't be as strong and it's hold on her will weaken as time goes on, breaking completely once your child is born."
