The early sign of daylight broke through Peter's window as he stirred awake. He grumbled as he tossed in bed, knowing he would inevitably have to get up and ready for his first day back at school after the summer break. He was not looking forward to having to mix the daily grind of schoolwork with his other daily grind of fighting bad guys and saving lives. No rest for the wicked, as they always say. He looked at his clock on his bedside table to see he still had half an hour before he had to get ready, counting his blessings as he rested his eyes under the duvet. Loud banging pursued on his bedroom door, making him jolt upright. "Peter?! Come on, get up!" He heard his aunt May shout as she opened his door, with a basket full of laundry on her hip. Peter moaned excessively as he rolled back into bed, throwing the covers back over his head. May scoffed and rolled her eyes as she put the basket down next to the door. "Don't make me come and jump on you," she grinned. Peter removed his duvet from his head and scowled at her from across the room. After a couple of seconds of death stares, he finally gave in. "It's too early..." He whined as he put on his slippers and shuffled out of his room towards the kitchen, following his aunt. "no it's not, you've just been off for too long," she replied, serving him a bowl of cereal. Peter had a feeling it was going to be a long day, and he already couldn't wait to do some swinging through his favorite city by the end of it.
Fast forward by an hour or two, and Peter was walking through the school entranceway to meet his best mate, Ned who was standing outside their first class of the day waiting for him. "Morning losers" MJ mumbled as she walked by, Peter and Ned focussed on their daily handshake. "Whatever," Ned stuck his tongue out at her in retaliation. Just as the bell went, the classroom door opened and the students starting to filter in. Peter and Ned took their usual seat at the back of the room, so they could gossip like they usually do. "So what's Spider-man doing tonight?" Ned whispered as he leaned over to Peter. "I think I'll just go for a swing around, to be honest. Stretch these daddy long legs," Peter replied. "Ew, gross, never call yourself that ever again," Ned scrunched his nose up in a mockery of Peter, chuckling.
"Settle down class!" the teacher announced as the second bell rang. "I hope you all had a nice summer, and I'm sure you all have plenty to catch up on, but I need to introduce you all to your new classmate. Guys, this is Emily," Next to the teacher stood a girl with tanned skin and very dark brown hair, with deep brown eyes. She was obviously quite shy as her eyes only skimmed over the faces in the front row before looking back down the to the ground. "Emily, do you want to go make yourself comfortable at the back there, just next to those two?" The teacher pointed towards the boys at the back. Ned removed his bag from the empty desk next to him as she approached. Maybe she wasn't too shy as she smiled at them when she took her seat, "Hi," she said quietly. "Hi, I'm Ned," He nodded, "and this is Peter," He pointed next to him as Peter waved.
Within no time the class had officially started and new projects had started. Typically the classwork was always done in pairs, but as Emily was new and the only empty desk was at the back, it only seemed fitting they worked as a group of three. By the end of the class, they got were getting on really well and decided to swap numbers. The even went to lunch together, where she got to meet MJ. The rest of the day dragged on exactly how Peter had expected it to, but thankfully the end of the day had finally come around. The gang had said goodbye to one another and they parted, heading their separate ways home. Obviously not for Peter; he was looking for a safe alleyway where he could get into his spider-gear without being seen, and take some weight off his feet. Within in no time, he had ditched is day clothes and backpack behind a dumpster and was zipping from building to building, with his headphones on. It was always such a relief for him to fly through New York, not only knowing his identity was safe and no one knowing who he was, but also having some sort of filter applied for his heightened senses. Every snuffle of a nose and click of a pen drilled into his head most days, and it's always the first day back after a school break that he got headaches especially. He had spent a couple of hours that evening swinging around, saving the odd cat from a tree, or just waving at passers-by. He had finally had a radio come in from his favorite police officer, Yuri. "Hey Spiderman, I'm getting reports of another bank disturbance if you don't mind checking it out, I'm sending over some of my men now, I'll send you coordinates." With a click, the radio transmission had ended and the coordinated uploaded to the suit. "Don't worry, Yuri, Spider-cop's on the case." he chuckled to himself as he swung around a radio tower and back the way he came.
With no time he was at the bank. No cop cars had pulled up yet, so he was the first on the scene. He zipped straight up the nearest vent he could find. Right away, he knew something was off, as he peered down through the vents to see masked men holding guns against civilians. But these weren't ordinary masks, as they clearly had some samurai-like fashion to them. They spoke with distorted voices, clearly to mask their own. He could tell this wasn't their first gig. They had done this before, for sure. Peter slowly followed the larger group of them, webbing the ones who stood alone or walked further back from the group to the ceiling. It wasn't long until the last of the masked men had noticed they were being followed as their numbers had reduced. The best way to stop them now would be to drop down and distract them from the innocents trapped in the bank with them.
Bullets flew his way, but his agility allowed Peter to miss them most, only skimming the odd one. As he rolled to his left, he webbed the attackers to his right, and pulled the guns out of another masked man's hands in front of him, knowing the sooner they were unarmed, the sooner this fight would be over. Police sirens could finally be heard in the distance, announcing their arrival. The masked men took this as their cue to escape. Within an instant, smoke grenades had exploded around the centre of the room, screams coming from the civilians. Peter was sure he could feel a source of energy come from the centre of the smoke cloud in front of him, like a kind of static in the air. Soon enough, the smoke had cleared and the strange masked men had vanished, only leaving the webbed ones behind. "Is everybody okay?!" Peter yelled as he rapidly turned to address the room. "Thank you spiderman!" one bank clerk responded, as he helped his coworker off the ground. Peter ran to greet the policemen at the front door. "They got away, sorry guys." He panted as he approached. "What's important is you stopped them, Spiderman. Nobody's hurt?" Yuri, asked as she got out of her cop car. "Only the guys who got in my way," Peter chuckled. "Good job, we'll take it from here, 7:22, robbery stopped, police on the scene," Yuri turned to talk into her radio. "That's the time? I gotta go, guys!" Peter waved as he leapt into the air, swinging back to the spot that he got changed in.
In a matter of minutes, he was back into his little alleyway with his backpack and day clothes back on, running off towards Neds to hang out and work together. 'What a day' he thought to himself.
