They agreed it would be best if they were to head back to Peter's apartment to meet up with MJ and Ned, as the thought of going back to Emily's home fault wrong, especially as it was about to be repossessed by the landlord. Luckily, May and MJ had gone over earlier that week to reclaim a couple of the belongings, such as the contents of the wardrobes and cupboards, and any personal items that held some sentimental value. Peter put his key in the lock and opened the door, to see MJ, Ned, and May waiting patiently for them on the sofa. MJ was the first to get up and rush towards them to give Emily a tight squeeze, followed by Peter and Ned who turned it into a group hug, with Aunt May being the last to join in, stroking the top of Emily's head as she closed her eyes. The group pulled out of the hug with beaming smiles on their faces. Not a word was said, but they didn't need to say anything. Everything they were thinking was exchangeable through their faces. Emily spotted the boxes stacked up in the corner of the room. "What's all that?" She asked, pointing over. "Oh yeah, your landlord has reclaimed your apartment so we helped to get as much of the things we thought you would want," MJ answered. "And my mom's diary?" Emily asked again, turning to May. "Don't worry, I got that as well," May walked over to the boxes, pulling the book out of the top box. "Nobody has read it so don't worry," She assured.
Emily sat down on the sofa. "So great, now I'm orphaned AND homeless..." He said quietly, partly feeling like she should be laughing at the situation, but she couldn't find it in her. "Is there any way you can reach out to your dad? Maybe he can help you?" Ned asked. It became clear to Emily that Peter has kept a lot a secret, as nobody had corrected him yet. She looked over to Peter, to see him staring at the ground as if he didn't know either. "Ned... my dad was the one you kidnapped me. He's the guy in charge of the robberies," She explained. His expression changed to shock, while May seemed to feel more empathetic toward the situation. "Emily... Do you want to live here?" She asked placing a hand on her shoulder. Emily looked up at her with bleary eyes, reaching to touch her hand. "Say no more. I can set up a camp bed in Peter's room if you want to share a room with him?" Emily only responded with a nod. Peter seemed to blush for a second.
May carried a pile of spare bedding into Peter's room while the other three carried in boxes of clothes and trinkets. Emily slid the box with a few of her mother's contents under the bed while stacking her belongings in their boxes next to the bed, making a makeshift bedside table. "Thanks, guys," Emily said with gratitude. "Can we go out somewhere?" She asked, wiping her brow. "Where do you want to go?" MJ asked. "I don't know... Maybe the park? I'd like to get some air, maybe pretend as if nothing has happened yet," She replied, looking down at her toes. MJ put her arm around her as they walked out of the room. "You two be back for dinner at 6, okay?" May called out to them as the group walked out the door.
The rest of the day had carried out exactly how Emily wanted; as if nothing had happened. The group sat at their favorite bench and talked about everything. Their favorite conspiracy theories, their predictions about the next movies coming out, share memes, etc. The day flew by, and it was just what Emily needed to feel some relief. In no time, Peter got the call from his aunt to tell them to come home and eat, and so Peter and Emily said their goodbyes to Ned and MJ and made their way home. The dinner they had together was lovely, May's cooking was so good and reminded Emily of her mother's cooking. Through everything that had happened, May had been so supportive and acted as a mother-figure for Emily and she was so grateful for it.
With the sun setting, Peter and Emily decided to call it a day and hang out in their room for a while before going to sleep. As she walked into the room, she managed to get a proper glimpse of his stuff scattered over his desk and his walls. There were hand-drawn plans pinned up on the walls, showing all sorts of gadgets and gizmos, while his desk was covered in cables, glue, and mechanical components. "Woah... What's is all this for?" She asked as Peter hastily gathered up his tools to clear the desk a bit. "Oh, uh... nothing. Nothing, in particular, I just like playing with toys sometimes," He answered quickly, hopefully not arousing any suspicion. Emily squinted at him. "Like what?" She quizzed, sitting down at his desk. "Well, I guess I like trying out some coding... Ned enjoys it too, I helped him with his drone the other day," He stated. Peter knew he was a terrible liar, so maybe if he stuck close enough to the truth then she won't feel the need to dig for more information. "Look, let me show you some coding," He slid his laptop in front of her, opening the lid and typing in his password. He pulled up the coding program to show his most recent work. Emily didn't understand anything she was seeing on the screen apart from a couple of words in square brackets. "Wow... I don't know what any of this means!" She laughed lightly to herself. "Okay let me show you something," He leaned closely over her as he pulled up another save of his program. Emily managed to get a good smell of his deodorant, making her blush slightly
She continued to watch him type away to take her thoughts away from his smell and his warmth. He hit a play button at the bottom right of the screen, and a small chime came from the wardrobe behind them. He stood upright and turned around, while Emily turning in her seat to look at where the noise came from. Crawling out from the bottom was a small robotic spider, around the size of the palm of your hand. He whizzed towards them until it got about a meter away from them. "No way!" She giggled, leaping out of her seat and squatting in front of it. "You made this?" She stared at it like a child. "Yeah, watch this," He squatted directly next to her, tapping the small bug on the head, making it light up. "Wow, Pete! That's incredible!" She was amazed by it. She looked closer to it, examining its legs and body which were attached together with strands of wires and zip-ties. "What did you make it for?" She asked curiously while tapping it multiple times so it gave her a small light show. "Uhh, I don't know, just a fun little gimmick, I suppose" He replied, thinking about how he hasn't had a chance to test it out on the town as Spiderman yet. "Does it have a name?" She asked. "Not yet, do you want to name it?" He looked up to her with a smile. "Victor!" She shouted with glee. "Victor?" He asked, laughing. "I don't know, it was the first name to come to my head," She laughed back at him, lightly smacking his arm.
With that, Peter stood upright again to type into his keyboard. "There we go," He muttered to himself. Emily got up and followed him, now leaning over his shoulder as he was sat down in the chair this time. "What did you do?" She asked, concentrating deeply on the code in front of her. "I've programmed for him to respond to Victor," He replied, looking up at her. He didn't notice how close she was until he saw her face, being able to feel her warmth right from where he was sitting. The smiled and turned to the spider. "Victor?" She called, and the spider chimed again, but this time climbed up to her, and immediately started climbing up her leg and onto her head, with her giggling the whole way up. Peter got out of his chair and reached up to take it from her head. Emily didn't really notice before how tall Peter was until now, he wasn't massively taller than her, but enough to feel like he was slightly towering over her, making him seem larger now he was closer. They decided to play with Victor for another hour, with Peter showing her what other tricks he could program the small spider to do, while Emily watched him type away on the keyboard and learned a small amount of coding, at least what some of the functions meant. This continued right up until they decided to call it a night and go to bed.
