The new day started exactly how the previous one did, Peter walking in with her breakfast in hand and his laptop bag hung from his shoulder. "Good morning, Peter," Friday greeted, the same as usual. "Your friend isn't awake yet, but she seems to have been released from the energy source that was possessing her," She continued. Peter immediately rushed to the desk to drop his laptop and breakfast, to then rush into the next room to see Emily. There she was, laid in the fetal position, her skin a fair shade of white and her dark hair tousled from another night's sleep. The nightie was now a shade of cream, and the food had been picked off the floor, Peter assuming she had eaten it in the end. He just stood there, soaking in the sight of her sleeping peacefully, noticing how her eyelashes grazed her skin as her eyes fluttered in her dream, and how each freckle speckled the tip of her nose. He was overjoyed to see his friend was herself again, and she was finally free. He turned around to head back to the desk, pulling his phone out of his pocket to text MJ, Ned, and May that she was okay. He picked up his food and got on with his work for the day.
About an hour passed before Friday announced that she was awake. He quickly grabbed his phone from the desk and approached the other room. From the doorway, he could see she was sat up in bed, with her dark hair draped over her face, holding a hand to her head as if she was in pain. "Emily..?" He questioned curiously. She flicked her head up, tucking her hair behind her ear, still showing signs of confusion and mild pain on her face. "Pete?" She stood up with a stumble. Peter ran up to the glass. "Friday, you can open the cell now," He said with a calm voice. Without hesitation, the glass slid sideways, opening half the cell. Peter walked into the cell, taking in the sight, before pulling her in for a long hug. "Peter, what happened?" She asked with a tired voice as she seemed surprised by Peter's hug, but slowly relaxed into it. "It's such as long story, but I'll tell you everything," He said quietly, pressing his face into her hair.
Another hour had gone by, and they were both sat on one of the sofas in the office space. "So how much of that do you remember?" Peter asked, just as a member of staff came in with the takeaway lunch Peter had ordered earlier. "Bits and pieces, I guess, specifically any bits where I saw my dad or mentions of my mom," Emily said before thanking the lady and taking the box from her. She opened the box to see a steaming hot pizza. It had been days she had a proper meal so she looked at the pizza as if she had never seen one before. Peter smiled lightly at her reaction to the food as he took the other box from the lady, allowing her to exit before they discussed any more information. "Does that mean you remember the video..?" Peter remembered showing her the video of her mother at the bank, feeling the guilt come back. "What video?" Emily answered, chewing on a mouthful of pizza, looking slightly confused. "Oh, you don't? I don't think I want to know..." Peter grew quiet. "Pete? It's not like an 'embarrassing drunk' kind of video is it?" Emily quizzed, smirking slightly. "No, it's not," He replied with a serious tone. "It was of your mom, at the bank..." He looked down at his food, not feeling like he could stomach it. Emily finished her mouthful. "Oh..." She looked down, trying not to think of what happened.
A few seconds of silence passed before jets could be heard out of the window. Peter turned over his shoulder to see Mr Stark arrive on the balcony in his suit. His suit deconstructed as he walked into the room, Emily's jaw slightly dropping at the sight. "You're Ironman- Tony Stark!" She stumbled out of her seat, slightly fangirling at the sight of Ironman's grand entrance. "And you're Emily, right?" He asked back to her, approaching the pair by the sofa. "I'm glad to see you're feeling better, now," He gave a half-assed grin before turning to Peter, leaving her in shock that he even knew her name. "Glad to see you've kept it tidy, Pete," He patted Peter on the back as he got off the sofa, Tony pushing him slightly, signalling him to walk with him to the other room with the cell for a private talk.
"I haven't seen any more signs of the demons or Dr Li across New York, they've probably gone dark since you're little rescue mission the other day," He spoke with a serious tone, not quite scolding Peter for the big job without the approval, but definitely not praising it. "Mr Stark, I-" Peter wanted to interject. "Does she remember anything? Does she know who you are?" He quizzed. "Yes, well no she doesn't know I'm Spiderman- and she doesn't remember much from before," Peter insisted, trying to sound confident. "Much?" Tony asked, cocking his head. "Well, she remembers small bits about her mom and her da- Dr Li," Peter was internally kicking himself for nearly spilling the truth about Emily's relation to Martin. The main reason he didn't want Tony knowing about it was that he was worried Tony would immediately distrust her and put her in a harder spot than she already was. "Did you nearly say, dad?" Tony asked, pointing a finger up to Peter. Peter cursed to himself as Tony started heading towards the office again, before running in front of him just as he got to the door, pushing him back in again. "I promise you she's not working with him! She didn't even know who he was until like 2 weeks ago! I swear she's just as much the victim as her mom is!" Tony stopped resisting him to consider what he had just said. Without saying anything more, he walked back into the office towards Emily.
"Peter says you might remember some things about Dr Li, so I'm gonna ask you to help us with this mission," He insisted, holding his hand out for a shake. "You got a deal!" She immediately grabbed his hand to shake it, trying to keep herself calm about what she just signed herself up to. Peter sighed quietly with relief that Mr Stark was willing to work with her, rather than lock her away again. "If you don't mind, I need to have a conference with the other avengers about the situation," Tony said, grabbing Peter's bag off his desk and chucking it to him, before ushering them out of the office into the elevator. As the doors closed, Emily looked down at her outfit. "I'm wearing a nightie," She scoffed as she looked back up to Peter who was stood beside her. "Oh right, I brought you some proper clothes, don't worry. You can get changed in the restroom on the ground floor," He smiled back, holding in a light giggle. He pulled out her favourite shoes from the bag along with a pair of jeans and an oversized crop top that had been picked from her wardrobe. "Thanks, Pete," She gave a genuine smile to him as she took the items from his hands just as the elevator chimed at the ground floor.
