Kageyama and you spent the first ten minutes laughing about stupid jokes and telling each other funny stories. Nothing lasts forever, but moments like this always felt like it was gone in a zoom. Now you two were just laughing, your eyes glued to the gazillion stars decorating the night sky.
"Why do you look so happy staring at the stars?" Kageyama asked. He noticed that you always smile when you look at them, tiny bright dots. It didn't surprise him that you like them, it was one of his visions.
You smiled even wider. "You see that one star, brighter than the others?"
Kageyama took a few seconds before he spotted it. "Yes, why?"
"It's Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky." Kageyama stayed silent as you said that. He only nodded as he examined the other stars surrounding Sirius.
"And those other stars around it you're looking at, they form a constellation with it, Canis Major." Kageyama was still silent. He didn't know what to say. Star constellation was never his thing and he never found it amusing.
"Why do you like it so much?" He asked.
"My dad always tells me and my step big brother about it when we were kids. Canis Major is my brother's favorite constellation. It's one of my favorites too." You explained.
"Why? What's so special about that one?"
"He loved it so much because it looks like a K but extended in the middle. It's his name initial. And in Latin, it means greatest dog, his favorite animal aside from cats." A tear escaped your eyes as you talk, remembering every little details of him. "..I love it because he loves it."
---☆---
"NO! Please don't go!" You screamed, tears streaming down your face. Your eyes glanced at the monitor screen, he's flatlining. You hugged him tightly, as tight as you could. You would never, ever let go.
Doctors barging into the room, nurses rushing in, carrying medical equipment. Everything there was a mess. The doctors told you to get out of there, but you didn't listen. How could they even think you would leave your brother dying here while you are going to be on the other side of the wall waiting for him to fly away to heaven, leaving you in this disgusting, cruel world.
The nurses pushed you away from him while you struggle to get away to hug him even more tight. But your body suddenly stopped fighting. You let them push you out of the room. How could you? How could you stop fighting in a time like this. How could you accept losing the one person who helped you go through hard times, who wipe your tears whenever you cry, who loved you to the point where he could kill, who you knew for a fact would not stop fighting for you if you were in his position. How could i?
You watched him slowly dying in front of your naked eyes. You didn't cry, you only stood there, stoned. You watched as the doctors stopped doing what they could. You watched as the nurse collapsed onto the floor, exhausted. You watched as your parents sat on the floor, breathless. All of them had at least a tear rolling down their eyes. But you didn't. You didn't shed a single tear when you knew he was gone. You felt empty.
"I'm sorry, we've done our best." One of the doctors told your parents. They cried so loud that the whole world could hear them. Your dad tried to contain his tears and calmed down your mom. While she was screaming the hell out of her, attacking the doctor weakly.
Of course he's a step brother to you and a step son to them. But he's been with all of you since he was a baby. You've known him since you were a baby. He completely understand you even that you're two years younger than him.
You walked past them, showing no emotion at all. It was like you had no tears left to cry.
You made your way inside the hospital room which was really messy, completely different from the room when your brother was still breathing. You walked to him and held his hands. When you saw his face, there's when you burst into tears. He was smiling. "How could you!? You knew you're gonna die. Why did you smile? How could you smile!?" You collapsed on his chest.
You realized there something in his hands, he held it tight til it formed a fist. You opened his hand and saw a little note. You took it and was about to open it. But you closed it again, knowing so well that he would want you to not read it here.
You ran as fast as your feet was able to. Only took less than five minutes for you to arrive at your usual hangout place. A beautiful blueberry hill. You walked until you reached the top. Then you sat on the fluffy green grass, your back resting on a tree in the center of the hill.
Blueberry bushes everywhere, the full moon shined bright, hitting your skin with its light. Warmness clouded around you, an image of you and your brother before he died.
You never understood why this place has no one visiting it constantly except for you and him. It was so beautiful, especially at night, where you can clearly see the stars with naked eyes.
Slowly, you opened that letter. A familiar handwriting appeared in your sight and you smiled.
If you miss me, look up. You know which star you'll have to look at. I'll be there.
Your bestest brother,
K.T. ♡You crumbled it into a ball and smiled at the brightest star in the sky.
