Justin's P.O.V.

By the time we fixed everything, it was late afternoon. We replaced everything that was ruined with old decorations. It wasn't as nice as it was before but it would have to do.

I still can not believe that somebody would intentionally ruin a charity dance. Even so if they didn't know it is a charity dance, what they did is still wrong. They vandalized community property. Everyone has their reasons, I suppose. Therefore, we have forgiven them.

Jackie and I also decided that this incident should stay between us. If this was to get out, there would be a humongous scandal. It also might scare off some of the invites. And we can't have that happening.

Selena and Demi stormed off and haven't returned, not that I'd expect them too. I understand that Jackie judged them without even knowing them but so did I. She just has to get to know a little better. Plus, with their reputations, they must know people will assume the worse.

I go on home to get ready for the dance. Its afternoon so I'm more than sure my mother is freaking out. I hadn't realized I left home without telling her. And with the redecorating, I got distracted and forgot to call and inform her about my whereabouts.

As soon as I walk into my house, I'm attacked. I close my eyes and scream thinking its a criminal attacking me.

"WHERE ON EARTH WERE YOU?" my mother yells.

I didn't realize I was holding my breath. "You scared me senseless!"

She releases me from her grip and sighs. "I'm sorry, I was just so worried. I thought the thugs who mugged you had came and to finish you off."

Selena had told her I got mugged by thugs. Of course. She couldn't have said I fell into a trash and fainted or something else?

No thugs would waste their booze and throw it upon me. My parents couldn't be more clueless.

"Oh, no. Jackie just needed help finishing the decorating." I say.

"Oh, thank God. Aren't the decorations lovely?" She smiles, suddenly forgetting that I left so early and never called.

"Yeah, about that . . . we used old decorations," I inform her.

"Why would you do such a thing?"

"Because I lost the new decorations."

I can't believe I just lied to the woman who gave birth to me. God, please forgive me for I have sinned.

She seems confused. "That isn't like you to lose things. Are you sure you lost them?"

"Most certain," I lie again.

"Well," she sighs. "Not much we can do, I suppose. As long as its decorated appropriately?"

"Of course, mother."

"Now go upstairs and get dressed for the dance. I laid out your tux on your bed. Wrinkle free!" She cheers.

"Thank you, mother." I smile at her before I begin to make my way up stairs.

"Oh, sweetie! Have you seen Selena? She wasn't in her room."

I stop and twist around back to her. "Uh-- no, I haven't seen her all morning. When I woke up she was already gone. Did you need her for something? I can text her if you'd like?"

This lying thing is easier than the church makes it seem. I just lied more than once and I don't feel like the devil is devouring my soul.

"Oh, no, don't bother. Your father and I still must speak to her about her disgraceful actions last night. But that's none of your worry, son. You should get dressed." She says before walking away.
