Soaked clothes, bloody wounds and searing pain everywhere was all Ally could concentrate on, her dads protective hand holding her own with an iron grip
The six survivors trudged their way through the thick foliage in a slow jog, they were all physically and mentally exhausted
Ally wanted nothing more than to be back home in her bed, she liked to think all of this was just a horrible dream, a nightmare... but it wasn't The sickening reality was always creeping round the corner.
They reached the edge of the trees and came across a sprawling patch of long grass, the greenery was almost as tall as Ally The tips of the grass just grazing her cheekbones
Jack was pulling Ally along beside him when she suddenly stumbled forward with a loud thump "Hey, you alright?" Jack asked, pulling his daughter back to her feet
She looked down, ignoring her father's question and began searching for what'd caused her to trip She didn't have to look very far however, it was a dirty black boot?
"What is that?" Kelly asked from behind her father's back, she was almost catatonic with fear "It's somebody's boot" Ally said, frazzled by her discovery As she turned it over to look at the top of the piece of footing, she tossed it away in shock
"What's the matter!?" Jack asked, he was concerned by her downright disgusted expression, hands clapped against her mouth to prevent sour bile from projecting all of the place
Jack looked down at the boot that landed right side up and immediately turned away with a noticeable grimace "There's a foot still inside" Jack muttered, Kelly began to shake as her grip on Malcolm's waist grew tighter "Way to go, genius" Malcom said sarcastically
Jack grew irritated by the mathematician's response "She's seen a lot worse and now your blaming me for saying there was a fucking foot inside!" Jack vented
Malcom was about to respond, but a scream in the distance silenced him Then came another, only this time... it was different
The first scream was most certainly a man screaming for his life, but the second sounded different It was much higher in pitch yet deeper at the same time, it oddly sounded familiar to Ally and Malcom
Ally took a few steps forward to get a better listen if the sound persisted "What is it Ally-Cat?" Jack asked, his voice lowered to a moderate whisper.
Ally didn't answer, instead she continued to listen intently
Then she heard it
A low, guttural growl
A growl that had plagued her nightmares for more than four years Her heart began to race as her eyes grew wide, her breaths beginning to tremble as it became harder and harder to breathe
