i fell by the wayside
like everyone else▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
there he stood, in all his glory. his beauty incomparable to those around him—well, to her, at least. she thought it was impossible for someone like him to exist in the same lifetime as she does. jaws would drop whenever he would look anyone in the eye and flash his killer smile.
and just like everyone else, she fell for him. she was always thankful for having been placed in the same class as him; she could watch him all day and never get tired of it.
but unlike every other girl who were willing to do anything to grab his attention, she was content with just admiring him from afar. he not only was quite the eye candy, he also had a beautiful voice. one that she would always perk up at whenever he answered a question in class. one that would make her forget everything else whenever he spoke.
she was content with the thought that he never really noticed her or paid much attention to her. but oh was she wrong. call it cliché, but he liked how she didn't seem to even try to get him. he couldn't even count on his fingers the number of girls desperately chasing after him day after day.
but there she was, always spending all her school hours not paying attention to teachers, instead always blatantly staring at him. she thought he never knew but oh, he knew. he knew how she would always lean against her locker every morning, on her phone, facing him, a few lockers down. she would pretend to be busy on her phone but she was always watching him. of course, not in a creepy way—at least to him it didn't seem like it.
"you're not very subtle with your admiration towards me, you know that right?"
he had said to her one day. it was the first time he ever spoke to her, catching her off guard. she blinked profusely up at him, heart racing as she looked into his beautiful, beautiful eyes. eyes that seemed to hold the whole universe in them.
her lips trembled as she tried to come up with something to defend herself with but failing, her brain seeming to have stopped working in his presence. but who could blame her? the park seonghwa was standing right in front of her and talking to her.
she took a deep breath, calming herself down and praying to herself she wasn't only dreaming that the male was talking to her. but he saved her from the trouble, instead continuing from the rhetorical question he had used as their conversation starter.
"but don't worry about it, yeah? i'm quite used to it,"
and with that, she felt like slapping herself square on the face. of course she wasn't any different from all the other girls going after him, what made her think she was special?
"but you, you're different."
she looked up at him in confusion, wondering what in the hell he meant by that. he took this as a sign to keep talking and to explain what he meant by what he said. "from what i have observed, you seem keen on me but you don't want me to know that. why is that, love?" she couldn't tell if he was flirting or not with his use of such an endearing pet name despite it being their first ever interaction outside of the classroom.
and maybe it was because he had been waiting for her to be the one to talk to him first for months now but when she spoke, he felt his worries wash away.
he felt himself relax listening to her honey-like voice speaking something other than just math equations she was always asked to answer in class. he could listen to it all day long and not get tired of it.
unbeknownst to her, he was also constantly watching her. but unlike her, he was good at hiding it. who's to say his little fangirls wouldn't mistreat her if they found out she had caught his attention? after all, she was the first person to have ever done so. and he wasn't stupid, he knew the power he held over half the female population in his school.
"s–sorry—" again, with trembling lips, she tried to open her mouth to explain, only to have him put a finger over her lips, shushing her.
"you don't have to apologise for anything. in case you haven't figured it out from the months you've spent observing me, quite conspicuously might i add, i never talk to girls much. you're the first one i've held a conversation with for this long." he admits to her smugly though on the inside, he too was unsure whether she would take it the right way or not.
"w–what are you trying to say?"
he wanted to combust at how adorable she looked, all nervous and confused, doe eyes blinking up at him innocently. to most, it seemed like she was the lucky one to have her crush come up to her to imply that she was somewhat special to him, despite them having never talked before that. but really, it wasn't. it was him that was lucky.
while the girl couldn't stay lowkey about her interest towards him for the past months, he on the other hand had always managed to act nonchalant about the girl.
but he sure did have some sort of attraction towards the girl. it had actually come to be way before hers– towards him– had. but he managed to keep it a secret—that is until he noticed her starting to pay more attention to him. and he couldn't be happier.
"what i'm trying to say is that you, love, you're interesting. and i would love for us to get to know each other better."
and that was the beginning of it all.
