CHAPTER 23

James pov:

I heard a knock on my Door and I told them to come in.

Sarah entered into my office with handful of files and neatly set them on my table.

"These are the files that you requested." She said.

"Thanks sarah. I'll let you know once I finished them." I said to her and she nodded before turning to leave.

"Oh, and before I forget your father wanted to talk to you. He asked me to tell you to meet him whenever you're free." She said and I sighed before nodding.

"Tell him, I'll meet him in few minutes." I said and she nodded in understanding before leaving my office.

I closed the files I was working and stood up from my chair just when my mobile phone Rang.

I fetched my phone and looked at the caller ID, a small smile breaking in my face.

"Hello" I said.

"Hey James, my man how you doing?" My friend Henry asked from the other line.

"Hey Henry, I am fine. What about you?" I asked.

Henry is a close friend of mine back in college. We went to the same Uni but parted after our graduation. He went to take care of his father's business which is in Singapore.

"I'm all good man. Guess what? I'm getting married man. Can you believe it? It's finally happening Man." He all but shouted from the other line.

I smiled at that. Back in college Henry is the funniest one among all my other friends and he's the one I am much closed to too. But after we graduated we lost touch with each others.

"I am happy for you dude. So, who's the lucky girl?" I said and I meant it. He never used to date when studying saying he doesn't have time for relationships and we always tease him for it. He's more like a nerd type of guy. It's not like he's ugly or something. Girls used to throw themselves at him for his good looks but he always says them 'No'. So, saying him getting married is really a shock to me.

"Thanks man and her name is Lillian. She is so lovely, beautiful and kind. You will definitely like her." He said with a happy voice.

"The wedding date is 10 days from today and you have to be here 2 days before the wedding okay? I already sent the invitation through mail so don't be late okay?" he asked and I kept silent.

"Hey man, are you there?" he asked.

"Yeah, I'm here."

"Is something wrong?" he asked almost immediately sounding worried.

"I'm sorry Henry but I don't think I can attend the wedding." I said nervously.

"Wait, what? But why?" he asked and I can hear the disappointment in his voice.

"Sorry man, I really can't." I said.

"No, I don't care how busy you are or whatever the reason that you aren't coming. You have to be here two days before the wedding. Come on man, you're my best friend and you didn't even call me once in all those years. Don't you think you have to make it up to me? plz man...." He nearly begged and I can imagine the puppy dog eyes he's making on the other line. Did I forget to say he acts like a child sometimes? Yup, definitely a child.

"Okay fine, I will be there." I said and I heard him say 'Yes'.

"Thanks Man, anyway I forgot to ask are you still single or married?" he asked and I flinched, my eyes going back to the picture I have on my table.

"Yeah, I'm married. It's been nearly 5 years since I got married."

"What? Really? You married before me and you didn't even tell me? What kind of friend you are?" he asked and huffed.

"Sorry man, it was a sudden one and kind of forced." I said.

"Aww, it sucks man. Anyway you guys are happy now right?" he asked but again I kept silent.

"It's okay man, I understand. Anyway bring her with you so I can I meet her okay? I mean only if you want to." He said nervously.

"Okay." that's all I said.

"Mm okay James, I will be waiting for your arrival. Just call me when you're coming okay, take care bye." He said.

"Bye" I said and hang up.

I sighed and took the picture from the table. It was a picture of Nick.

It's been nearly five years. Five fucking years since he disappeared. We searched the whole country for him and even appointed searching party to find him but we couldn't. We didn't even know if he's still alive or not but I am hoping and praying to god every day to keep him alive and safe with the baby. My baby.

A single tear rolled down my cheeks but I wiped it. Setting the picture aside on the table I left my office to go see my father.

When I reached his office Sarah was sitting on her chair outside of his room door and once she saw me she stood up and opened the door for me.

I thanked her and went inside the room. He was talking on the phone and once he saw me come in he hung up the call saying he will call them later whoever he's talking to.

"Hey James." He said and stood up.

"Did you want to see me?" I asked.

"Yes, I wanted to talk to you about something." He said and I nodded at him.

"I want you to completely take over the company. I am going to take some rest from all those works." He said and I frowned.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I am getting old son, I thinks it's time for me to take a break don't you think?" he asked and I sighed.

"But..." I started but he cut me half.

"No buts. I believe you son. You showed me that you're worth enough for this position and the responsibilities. I trust you. I know you will become even more successful than Me." he said and I gave him a sad smile.

"Thanks Dad, I agree and I will try my best." I said he smiled.

"Anyway, I am going to the Singapore next week to attend my friend's weeding and I will be back in three or four. Is that OK?" I asked.

"Yeah, that's definitely okay James. I think you needed that." He said and my face fell and my father noticed it too.

"I am sorry son. Did you hear anything about him?" he asked.

I looked at the ground and shook my head.

He sighed and came towards me placing his arm on my shoulder.

"Son, I know you blame yourself for his leaving but don't you think it's too long? It's been five years James and he's still not yet to found. Why don't you try to move on and find somebody else?" he asked but I shook my head.

"No Dad. I can't. I only need him and I'll wait for him even if I have to wait for my whole life." I said.

"We just want you to be happy son." He said.

"I know dad, I know. I'll take my leave now." I said and left his office.

After I reached my office room I sat on my chair and took his picture.

"I will find you Nick no matter how long years it takes and when I do I will do anything to get your forgiveness. Wait for me..."
