STORMS
I am going to kill him. He thinks it's all jokes and games. Once just once let me get hands on you, I'll kick your ass into the next year.
A quick glance at the clock made me even more livid. 3 am is extremely late even for his standards. A pang of worry surfaced in my mind but I pushed it down as soon as it came. I can't let my nerves play now.
Saturday night is this one night where I get to have a full 8 hours sleep but no. I could be sound asleep in my cosy blankets rather than freezing my butt in the cold, just to wait for my stupid brother, who thinks it's cool to not pick his damn phone in last fucking 8 hours.
My attention was soon diverted to the small girl coming out of the room. Jane must have realized my absence on the bed. Rubbing her eyes and crawling on the sofa beside me she inquired," Is he still not home ?"
I wanted to lie. Trust me I did. But Jane was too smart to know that there can be no other reason I am wide awake at this hour. Her eyes burrowing into me demanded honesty.
"No" came my quiet reply.
Her eyes clouded with concern and a frown appeared on her face. That exactly what I was afraid of. She cared about Ash more than anybody in the house. Every time he came late at night supporting bruises on his face made her cry.
And yet the idiot keeps going there to come back with more injuries. His excuse,' It's fast money, and money is what we need the most.'
Hugging her and kissing her head, I mumbled, " Hey, hey don't worry now. You know how he is. He must be partying with Kyle right now. I promise you, Jane, this time I will ground him till he turns 30."
She tilted her head, making eye contact with me, " He is going to be fine, right?"
Sighing and assuring her and myself, "Yes he is going to be fine. The worst-case scenario, he must be drunk till his brain and passed out at his friend's house."
"You need to sleep darling and I promise that when you will wake up in the morning, he would be right here, at home."
This did the trick, she closed her eyes and drifted to sleep with her head to my lap and body curled in a fetal position.
The clock flashed 3: 40 am. Tension has started seeping inside me. Fights don't last till this late. I decided to call him once more and then I will go out and sought him myself.
The person you are trying to reach is currently not available. Please try again later.
Same reply for the umpteenth time for both Ash and his friend Kyle. Cursing at both of them in my mind, I picked up Jane, careful not to wake her up and laid her back in our room. Pulling covers over her torso I made my way out.
Opening the door to Noah's room, I shook his shoulder gently. I hate waking him up at this ungodly hour when I knew he was exhausted from his soccer practice and deserved to sleep peacefully.
