(Name) couldn't help but yawn as she sat next to her friend. She had stayed up later than usual the night before to make sure she finished the research for the project. There was a poke on her arm. Beside her, Onceler was holding out a marshmallow. The girl rose a brow.
"What are those for?"
"Sugar, it'll help you wake up."
"Are marshmallows your answer to everything?" (Name) couldn't help but laugh, though she took it.
"Maybe," the boy answered with a grin.
(Name) smiled at her friend, looking him over. Onceler seemed tired as well, there were light dark circles under his eyes. He must've stayed up late a lot, the girl figured as she watched him down some marshmallows.
"Are those all you eat?"
The Onceler rose a brow. "No, of course not. Why?"
"I swear, marshmallows are like all I've ever seen you eat."
"I like them." The boy shrugged, and that was that.

"You ready?" Onceler asked, meeting (Name) at her locker. School was out and the two were going to his house to work on their project. The girl was excited about seeing where her friend lived, especially since he has been to her house before.
"Yeah," she answered as she swung her bag on her back and slammed her locker shut. The two made their way outside.
"Brett and Chet have football practice today, so they won't be home until later." (Name) nodded as she followed Onceler down Mulberry Street. The direction he was walking led away from most of the town. "You'll also be meeting the rest of my family, at least for a second."
(Name) frowned, remembering the embarrassing moment a week back where she called the Onceler's Aunt a sir. "I don't think I'm ready for that." Her friend laughed, likely also recalling the memory.
As the street continued, other buildings and houses started to get fewer and fewer. It wasn't long until the only thing (Name) could see were her friend and rolling hills. How far away from school does he live? The girl asked herself, starting to feel a little tired. And how long will it take me to get home tonight when we're done?
The cool wind started to pick up, blowing through the teens as they walked. (Name) pulled her coat tighter and crossed her arms. She wished she had her scarf - the one Onceler gave her - since the wind made it so cold, though she didn't expect to need it.
The girl looked up at the tall boy beside her. The only thing he had on against the cold was a sweater, likely one that he knit. She felt a little bad for him, seeing as he was possibly colder than she was.
A building appeared in the distance. It was still small from their distance from it, but it was slowly getting bigger as they approached. It looked awfully run down, something (Name) hadn't expected. The house looked like it was originally white, but dirt and grime clung to it's sides. The shingles on the roof appeared to be falling off, and, (Name) realized with a face, there was a tire on the roof. There was a worn rocking chair sitting on the porch.
The yard was a mess too. There was a football laying in the grass, along with a bunch of other random objects. An old, rusty car was also in the yard. It was propped up on cinder blocks as it had no tires. The fence around the yard looked as if it was falling apart. There was a barn behind the house, which looked faded and weathered.
