"(Name), can you help me set up the picnic table in the back yard?" Her mother asked as the girl came out of the kitchen. "Yeah." She followed her mom out the back door. There was a table cloth folded up on top of the table that they were going to use on it.

"The party is starting in forty-five minutes and I haven't seen your sister all morning."

(Name) frowned a little. "I can go talk to her after we get the table set up," she suggested. Her mom nodded. "Please, that would be helpful."

They stood beside the table once the cloth was laid out. "I've got paper plates and plastic cups in the kitchen. When the children get here, I want you and your father to offer them drinks. We have the--"

"Yes, I know. We have the lemonade, fruit punch, and tea in the fridge," (Name) interrupted. "We've been over this Mom, I got it." The mother nodded with a small sigh. "Yes, this is just the first big birthday party we've hosted in awhile. I just want things to go according to plan."

"Right, I get it. I'm going to go check on Mayzie now. I think Dad was on the phone with the pizza place, why don't you go talk to him about that?" (Name) offered before walking off.

The girl knocked when she reached her sister's room. "Mayzie," she said as she put her hand on the knob.

"Don't come in, don't come in!" The birthday girl yelled.

"Alright, alright," (Name) took her hand off the knob. "Mom's worried, how are you doing in there?"

"I'm fine, I'm just trying to get ready for the party!"

(Name) laughed a little. "Ok, I'll let her know. Just don't take too long, your party starts soon."

    "I know, jeez."

Maybe I should get ready too, (Name) thought, looking down at her pink cactus pajamas. She went to her room and closed the door, overhearing her parents talking in the kitchen down the hall. "The pizza is set to be delivered in an hour and a half, which should be enough time for the guests to get here and the magic show. I'm about to call the magician too, just to double check on things."

(Name) reached to open her closet door, pausing when her fingers wrapped around something soft. She smiled looking down at it. That's where she hung Onceler's scarf when she got back home the previous night. The girl quickly glanced around the room before unraveling the scarf. The material wasn't the softest, but it really was comfortable when she wore it. It was probably warmer than the few other scarves she owned.

A warm feeling spread through her chest the longer (Name) stared at the scarf. Onceler really was sweet for giving it to her. She felt so fortunate that she was able to make such a good friend already, and she really appreciated him.

Right, I'm on limited time, (Name) remembered and set the scarf aside. She got dressed in a pair of jeans and a sweater, then went to brush her hair and teeth. She was done pretty quickly and went back out of the room to find her parents, but as far as she could tell, the house was empty save Mayzie's room.

"Mom? Dad?" She called, then realized the back door was open. Voices grew louder as she approached.

"Thank you, I'll just take some time to set up."

(Name) froze. That voice was so familiar, it couldn't be..

     But it was.

The girl finally made it to the open door to find her parents standing in the backyard with none other than the Onceler. He was dressed in a magician's outfit, which wasn't too different than his everyday clothes already.
