They walked in silence for five minutes as they made their way through the streets to her home. The silence was awkward but she couldn’t help it. It’s not every day you find out that humans continue to ruin each other's life even after technology has evolved so much everyone could live in harmony.
“What is your family like?” Bellamy asked tentatively next to her.
“My mum works in admin for the school the other side of town- you know, doing paper work and filing things. She’s really bubbly, I get my blonde hair from her. My dad used to be a Doctor but he’s retired now, he’s an amazing cook, especially when he makes foreign dishes. I don’t have any brothers or sisters no cousins either. My grandparents are gone as well. What about yours?”
Bellamy’s brows furrowed into a frown. “My mother is a leading surgeon in the medical field and my father is a politician, some people think he will become our next leader. I am not close to them, they like work and they tolerate each other.
That’s as much as I know. I was considered a disappointment for going into the technology sector instead of the medical sector, but after I was promoted to head of data restoration they have begun inviting me to dinner parties again. I don’t have any brothers or sisters either, couples who have more than one child are very rare nowadays, mostly because people understand that we are running out of space.” He shrugged his shoulder nonchalantly.
“I’m sorry to hear that you don’t have a happy family life- but believe me when I tell you that it’s not a time thing, my best friend Finchey’s parents divorced, his dad only wants to see him for a few weeks a year. I think family problems is something that will never change.”
They fell into an easy silence as they rounded the corner of her street. She watched with a small smile as he took in everything around him- his torso twisting and neck turning as he looked at all the different houses that surrounded them.
“Here we are” She said softly, breaking him out of his daze coming to a stop outside her home.
She glanced at Bellamy nervously, but her trepidation at showing him her home was squashed as his eyes widened with shock and awe.
“This is where you live?!” He breathed in wonder
“Would you like to come in?” she grinned.
“Absolutely!” he grinned back.
Laughing and shaking her head she led him to the front door. He was excited about going inside her home. Boys his age in this time were only ever this exited when the next game console came out.
She opened the door and led him into the hallway, laughing again when he was stunned into silence.
“Um... This is the hallway. And through here is the living room-“she opened the door to the living room watching him as he walked around the room for a few minutes “- This is the kitchen”- She showed him into the room a smile playing on her lips.
“The hallway is as big as my whole living space.” Bellamy laughed, running his hand through his hair again. “This house, it’s my dream, this town is my dream. You are my dream.” He shook his head and walked out of the kitchen through the glass door into the garden.
Wait. WHAT? She could understand why this town and house would be his dream, it’s a lot of peoples dream and it makes sense why it would be his as well. But her? She was invisible to boys, always had been. Maybe she had heard him wrong. Maybe he’d said ‘You are in my dream’ and not ‘are my dream.’ Yes. That’s it. Her wild and wanting imagination was playing tricks on her.
She looked out of the window. He was sat on the garden bench his head in his hands staring down at the ground. Slowly she opened the door and walked over to him. Sitting silently on the grass by his feet.
