"Incoming call." G.I.L.E.S said, as Bellamy sat in his chair staring out of his window at the stark city in front of him.
"Ignore." He replied, doing the same as he had with the past two phone calls from his mother.
Right now, after his time with Pippa, he could not- would not- face his mother. She would no doubt want to talk about the deal he had made with him. Shove him out into the community rooms before he even had confirmation the capsule had been found.
He sighed and leaned back, staring up at the ceiling. More white. Closing his eyes he imagined Pippa and her home. He should have told her. He should have told her everything. But he didn't. He didn't tell her about the most important deal he had made for him mother. Married.
If there was something loose to throw, to smash against a wall and break into a million pieces, he would. But there wasn't.
"Incoming call." G.I.L.E.S said again.
Bellamy sighed in frustration, could that woman not leave him alone?
"Ignore." He replied once again, this time through gritted teeth.
"Unable to ignore. Answering in 3...2...1..."
Bellamy shot up out of his chair, there was only one person who could authorize a call that could not be ignored.
"Bellamy Jezebel?" A woman appeared on the call screen, now illuminating his wall.
"Yes, Ma'am." He replied, shuffling uneasily.
The white uniform of the woman in front of him told him his suspicions were correct.
"This is Mabel, President Clarking's PA calling. You have been summoned to the main office, a car is being sent for you and should be arriving any second now." She said.
Bellamy's heart stuttered. "Why?" It was the only word he could get out, his tongue twisted with the nerves that came from all the scenarios running through his mind. Being called to the main office, the President's office, was not a good thing.
"I don't have the clearance to know that. The President has summoned you, if you refuse to come then you will be brought here by force." Her tone was matter of fact as she threatened him with the armed guards.
He gulped, nodding his head slowly. "I will be there." He replied.
"Good." The screen switched off as she hung up the call, leaving Bellamy stood shocked in the middle of his room, staring at a blank wall.
"Your Car has arrived." G.I.L.E.S said, echoing what the PA had just told him. There was no way he couldn't go now.
"Thank you." He numbly walked out of his room, into the corridor towards the waiting car. He hardly realized he was going through the motions, scanning his eye and climbing in until the car door slammed shut. He wiped his hands on his trousers as the car automatically started up. Only appointed cars were allowed to go to and from the main office.
The car zoomed through the city, other cars pulling into the laybys to make way for his. He had been given priority.
The tallest building in the city loomed ahead of him, the main office right at the top, overlooking the rest of the city. He spied his father's office a few floors below. How his parents could live in the same building they worked in, he didn't know. The red light appeared at the top of the car, scanning him to make sure that he still was who he said he was. Satisfied, the car started up once more.
Bellamy took a deep breath. What was he going to walk into? Had they over heard the conversation he had had with his mother? Did they want to lock him up? Had his mother told the President about his dreams, tricked him into agreeing with her until she could get him secured? The thoughts and questions raced through his mind as the car raced up the side of the building.
The tops of the cities towers passed him by, looking up he saw the curve of the dome that encased their city growing closer and closer. The top of the tower grazed the top, the drones sat on a ledge on the outside of the dome, ready to venture out into the damaged world. They were sat unmoving, getting ready for their journey the next day.
Slowing to a stop, the red light appeared again, scanning him from top to toe once again. Glancing over the side his stomach lurched. He focused his gaze instead on the car door, which clicked and slid open to reveal a white box like room, two guards in black stood in the corners facing him. One of them beckoned him forward.
"Stand in the middle of the room please Mr. Jezebel." The guard said, his face was covered by a black mask. Bellamy could tell from his voice that the guard was young, probably younger than him.
Stepping out of the car, he straightened his back, trying to appear more confident than he felt in that moment.
He heard machines whirring, a series of red laser's coming from the top corners of the room, scanning every inch of his body.
The security checks were continuous, thought Bellamy. He had no idea how hard it was to get up here before, or how dangerous being president obviously was. He knew he had been sheltered his entire life, from the guards and who they controlled. But seeing the guards up close and guarding the entrance to the main office, it made things a little bit more real for him.
The door he was facing slid out from the wall, sliding open to reveal a lavish, bustling hall.
"Busy today, ain't it Peters." He heard the guard say to the younger one as he walked past them, into the room.
The younger guard just grunting in reply.
he was right though; the hall was busy with people of all clothing color. He walked over to the desk situated in the middle of the room, recognizing the lady sat behind it as the one who he talked to through the call just a few minutes ago.
"Bellamy Jezebel, here- well, I don't really know why I'm here." He said, the lady looking up at him with a blank stare.
"Yes, take a seat. You will be called through in a moment." She nodded to the line of plush looking chairs that ran against the left side of the wall.
He walked slowly to the chairs, glancing around, taking note of the people who were around him. He didn't recognize anyone- that he knew of anyway- a few recognized him, staring at him either in awe or questioningly.
A flash of blue, and brown hair caught his eye. Looking over, there was nothing but a closed door. Shutting his eyes, he figured he must be hallucinating. The stress of the day's events playing tricks with his mind. He took a deep breath before opening his eyes and looking around the room again.
A young man with a flamboyant mustache sat down next to him, joining him in looking around the room.
"It always amazes me, how people can walk through these doors and not really understand the breadth of power that man has in that room." The man said, absentmindedly playing with his mustache.
"What?" Bellamy wasn't sure what the man was on about, let alone if he was actually talking to him.
The man looked over to the corner of the room, as though waiting for something. "Be careful, Mr. Jezebel. The world is bigger than you or I could imagine."
Before Bellamy could respond, even process what the mystery man had said to him the doors to the main office slammed open.
His father stood in the open doorway, pointed and beckoned him to follow. The room fell silent as he slowly stood from his chair, walking with feigned confidence and assurance towards his father.
Taking one last glance at a now empty chair.
WHAT IS GOING ON? Any guesses? Things are beginning to take a turn...
